Redmine Emulator - Emulator Issues #13477 (New): 4GB non-HC SD cards do not work despite working on real ...https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/134772024-02-06T00:41:38ZNM64

I recently purchased a used 4GB non-HC SD card (there are still 6 available from this seller if you need one for testing):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/155830965023

Dumping it and using in Dolphin straight-up does not work while doing the exact same process on a 2GB non-HC SD card (such as the one that came with the launch 3DS) does indeed work

The thing is though, I can confirm that this 4GB non-HC SD card mostly "just works" on a real Wii console's Wii Menu with its data management and the SD card menu and the like, and can also similarly confirm that mostly "just works" in Excite Truck (even launched from the commercial disc!) with its custom soundtrack function working which, being a Wii launch title, does not support SDHC cards.

The reason I say "mostly" is because there's an odd quirk with regards to transitioning to and from the Wii Menu on real hardware:

Insert 4GB non-HC SD card ▶ power-on console to Wii Menu ▶ launch Excite Truck disc — custom music "just works" ▶ return to Wii Menu — "Data Management" does not work ▶ eject and re-insert 4GB non-HC SD card — "Data Management" works

Insert 4GB non-HC SD card ▶ power-on console to Wii Menu — "Data Management" does not work ▶ eject and re-insert 4GB non-HC SD card — "Data Management" works

Power-on console to Wii Menu ▶ Insert 4GB non-HC SD card — "Data Management" works ▶ launch Excite Truck disc — custom music does not work ▶ eject and re-insert 4GB non-HC SD card — custom music works

If you turn on the console with the 4GB non-HC SD card already inserted and then run Excite Truck, everything "just works". If you then exit to the Wii Menu, you need to eject and re-insert the 4GB non-HC SD card in order for the Wii Menu's data management to properly see it. Similarly, if you boot with the console with no SD card and, while on the Wii Menu, insert the 4GB non-HC SD card, it'll "just work" in the Wii Menu's "data management" but subsequently launching Excite Truck results in the card not being seen unless you eject and re-insert it.

Curiously, BootMii as boot2 on my launch-day Wii does not work with a 4GB non-HC SD card (which is unfortunate since I normally use USB Loader GX's custom ppcboot.elf to boot directly into USB Loader GX). However, all other homebrew I've tested seems to work without issue (Homebrew Channel, Not64, USB Loader GX, WiiXplorer).

FAT16 vs FAT32 did not seem to make a difference in any of this stuff. Also, I can make a video recording demonstrating any and/or all of this if you'd like.

Inside of the following 7z archive are 4 disk images of my 4GB non-HC SD card, two in FAT16 and two in FAT32. The "empty" ones are self-explanatory while the ones "with data" have a single license-free MP3 you can use for testing as well as my completed Excite Truck save data pre-configured to use custom MP3s; also included is USB Loader GX and the aforementioned custom ppcboot.elf to demonstrate how bootmii unfortunately does not work while USB Loader GX itself does:

http://0x0.st/Hktp.7z

And to make it easier for testing in Dolphin, I've attached a stand-alone copy of that very same completed Excite Truck save data of mine pre-configured to use custom MP3s.

Emulator - Emulator Issues #13077 (Accepted): AArch64 and JIT64 cores do not synchronize on Netpl...https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/130772022-10-23T16:47:23Zthomasalban

How to reproduce the issue:
Launch a netplay session on an M1 Mac (M1 pro macbook pro). Join the session with a windows pc. Launch Mario Kart Wii (PAL) and start a race. After a few seconds of the race, the desync between the clients will become such that it shows the other player driving into a wall when in reality they are driving normally. This is of course detrimental to Mario Kart Wii and many other games.
The issue can be fixed by launching dolphin using rosetta on the mac, however this causes performance issues. When testing this, both computers were on the latest beta version of dolphin.
I hope this can be resolved because otherwise dolphin is amazing on m1 macs!

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

When playing on BBA with a real console, after about 3 seconds the game decides that an error has occurred and disconnects everyone. I decided to investigate this further and found out this game has a replay system which allows you to save replays onto the memory card. By using that, I was able to record a replay in Dolphin and create something that would be testable on console. When replayed on console, I found that the replay desynced and never finished the race. Even more curious, I tested on the AArch64 JIT with Android... and it also desynced! Interpreter does sync with JIT64, however.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1: Run a race in 1080 Avalanche
2: At the end, highlight view replay but do not select it.
3: Hit left or right on the joystick to reveal "save replay"
4: Save the replay
5: Watch the replay under the "Replay" option on the main menu on a different architecture (Dolphin AArch64 vs Dolphin x86-64 vs Console)

OR

I've provided replays of each platform to skip most of the steps.

1: Place the replay file you want to test on your memory card
2: Observe it misbehaving/behaving depending on if it matches the platform you chose to run it on.

One final note is that interpreter does agree with JIT64, though we know that JIT64 is wrong. This means the interpreter also needs repairs. I've verified that each replay worked on the platform I recorded it on as a sanity test. In the replays, I attempt to drive pretty good, but on the AArch64 one, I'm playing on a touchscreen and it gets hairy toward the end. I do make sure to win the race on all 3 recordings.

Note: It seems JIT64 and JIT AArch64 are closer to one another than console, as I accidentally made a replay that at least completed on both JITs, though there may have been some small differences that ended up not mattering due to how easy the first course is. I've only included replays that fail on the other platforms in this issue report.

Emulator - Emulator Issues #12438 (New): AD16 implementation is incorrecthttps://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/124382021-03-01T21:18:47Zpokechu22

Game Name?

GameCube IPL.

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

Dolphin's implementation of the AD16 is incorrect. The
AD16Reg
union is defined as
union AD16Reg { u32 U32 = 0; u32 U8[4]; };
but it needs to be
union AD16Reg { u32 U32 = 0; u8 U8[4]; };
as the
U8
field is intended to access data one byte at a time. Due to this incorrect implementation, the init code returns
00000000
instead of
04120000
, and the AD16 is not detected.

However, note that if this is fixed, the IPL will fail to start, because BS1 performs a memory test that overwrites the entirety of memory (including BS1). On hardware, it boots from fff00100, which is mapped to an EXI transfer (and this only works with the de-scrambling due to icache). Since dolphin instead loads it into memory at 81200000, the data is clobbered (and icache doesn't seem to save it for some reason). (Note also that BS1 loads BS2, so dolphin has no reason to load BS2 itself.)

I have the start of a set of changes to fix this, but since I've got no idea when I'll be done with then, I figured I'd report this just so that it's documented.

Emulator - Emulator Issues #11814 (New): [Accessibility Request] Larger menus while using touchsc...https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/118142019-08-01T16:17:28ZJebeld17@gmail.comJebeld17@gmail.com

With touchscreens now prevalent on most new devices - laptops especially - users are gravitating toward physically "touching" their apps to interact with them more than ever. With this, we should provide these users - the general public - with a few optimizations that make this form of interaction easier.

I am highlighting two main concerns and suggesting how to fix them and cater to these users below:

"File" menus are optimized for keyboard and mouse (menu drop-downs are too small for fingers).

Fix: When Dolphin recognizes a touch input instead of a keyboard/mouse click, dolphin should present these menus with larger text and taller margins to make easier to touch.

Right-click menus are also too small for touch.

Fix: When Dolphin recognizes a touch input right-click (whether tapping with two fingers or pressing and holding for approx 1 second) instead of a keyboard/mouse click, dolphin should present these menus with larger text and taller margins to make easier to touch.

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

The pre-main menus run uncapped, meaning they hit 2600 FPS, but it slows Dolphin down to 2 VPS. This makes it take a very long time to reach the main menu. The only work around is to turn the emulated CPU clock down to the lower amount so that the game runs a respectable speed and mash through it until you reach the main menu. Turning on vsync seems to crash the game during these segments. Or at least slow it down very, very greatly. My testing was on single core.

Game Name?

Action Replay by Datel - DTLX01 (modified to DTLE01)

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

Plugging in a memory card or having a memory card plugged in will cause it to hang.

What did you expect to happen instead?

I didn't expect a memory card to hang it.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]
1.Have Bios enabled.
2.Use LLE Audio
3.Run disc with memory card or GCI folder plugged in. I think having Advance Game Port is good enough even.

Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?

4.0, 4.0-5378

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?

Nope

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)

Core i5 3570K, GTX 760, Windows 7 x64

Fiora's work-around for the single core issues does not fix this.

Game Name?

1080 Snowboarding NAOE01, NAOJ01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

Without accurate icache emulation, the game will hang at startup

What did you expect to happen instead?

I expected it to play fine.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]
1.Have 1080 Snowboarding for VC
2.Attempt to boot it.
3.Look on in dismay as you find a game that relies on the icache being emulated, and despair.

Pressing B to do the 180 degree turn move in an on-rail level causes desyncs at specific (consistent) spots when TASing, presumably in areas where actors load/lag occurs in the game engine.

What did you expect to happen instead?
Playback syncing, have had 0 issues syncing elsewhere in the game so far.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Start the on-rails second level "Precious Cargo", start a TAS recording.

Spam the B button when approaching the highway exit until an enemy blue van appears in front of you (roughly 38-40) seconds into the level).

After following the blue van for a few seconds take notice of the direction you're facing, stop recording and play it back. It should desync near the moment the van appears, having you end up facing in a different direction at the end. You can also desync by using B in this level when driving over the grassy area, when passing by the gas station you blow up, and when entering the building near the end.
