The UI elements into some menu tabs look somehow wrong in the latest beta. Inactive options have too eye-catching color design compare to active ones (previously it was semi-opaque and grey) resulting it is not immediately clear they can not be activated. Moreover while being out of focus, the option windows somehow become colored in grey, like elements being checked in Windows OS. I guess the UI design is following the desktop color theme now, so maybe it somehow connected to Cinnamon I am using...

Emulator - Emulator Issues #13128 (Accepted): Xenoblade Chronicles bloom on title screen is much ...https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/131282022-12-23T09:44:26Zmilebon

Xenoblade Chronicles (SX4E01, USA, Good dump, ISO/RVZ)

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

During the sunset part of the title screen sequence, bloom is way too large. On console you can see nice dramatic clouds in the sunset, but on Dolphin that whole part of the screen is basically a solid orange color.

Dolphin is accurate here with the software renderer, but all other backends have this issue no matter what settings I try to change. I mainly tested things at native Internal Resolution, but this setting is odd as the title screen is part of the EFB or something, so increasing resolution only works with Scaled EFB Copy enabled. When that setting is enabled, changing IR does nothing to the bloom, everything just becomes HD as it should. However if Scaled EFB Copy is disabled, increasing the resolution slightly reduces bloom, but only on even numbered IR scales? Some settings do decrease the bloom a little bit, like 8xMSAA or Disable EFB VRAM Copies, but none of these are real solutions.

Using a bloom gecko code is helpful, but they're all slightly off and tend to mute the pink sunset colors a bit.

Please note I've looked at nothing but the title screen, and have no idea about the state of things like torches or lamps

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Just boot up the game and fast forward a bit. Once the sun starts setting, you'll soon see an orange color fill up the top right of the screen. The sunset lasts a while, so you can easily make a save state to check out the scene in the software renderer.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

I tested most things on the beta build 5.0-17995, but I updated to the latest dev version 5.0-18078 and its still there

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

Yeah, 5.0 has it. So does 4.0 and 3.5, but 3.0 is strange.

Stable 3.0 is the only version I tested that doesn't completely mess up the scene at default settings. The bloom is still wrong, but at least its not covering the entire top right of the screen. Something else I only saw on 3.0 is that the graphics get very blurry right when the sunset starts, like the game has just changed something, then when sunset turns to night, the game goes back to the normal blocky low res graphics.

The earliest dev build I could find on the website was 3.0-749, but at default settings it does the heavy bloom like every other Dolphin version. However if you change the EFB Copies setting to RAM, you still get bad bloom but its a unique form of bad. This EFB Copies thing worked on 3.0-749, 3.0-936, and 3.0-937 aka 3.5-0, but I couldn't get stable 3.5 to do this.

If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer

I've got a three frame fifolog but I don't know if it'll help anything. It was recorded in either 5.0-17995 or 5.0-18078.

I've also got some screenshots, plus I made some comparison images because I've got nothing better to do

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

AMD R5 3600
Nvidia 1050 (driver 516.94)
Windows 10 Home 21H2 Build 19044.2364

I've also tested it on someone else's computer with a R7 3700x and 3060 ti (unknown drivers / windows 10). I haven't tried any AMD or Intel GPUs.

Android 5.0-17269 (from F-Droid) also has the issue.

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue?

This probably doesn't help, but you can easily find old youtube videos that show title screen on Wii or Dolphin
Here's an old Wii video, check out the right side starting around 1:45: https://youtu.be/3OZoockxQmY
Infrastructure - Issue #12972 (New): Windows: Offer installers for more than stable buildshttps://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/129722022-07-09T12:36:31Zosfanbuff63

Currently, Dolphin builds past around 5.0 compile as a
7z
file. This makes it incompatible with
winget
, Windows's package manager of sorts. (Source: https://github.com/microsoft/winget-pkgs#windows-package-manager-community-repository). One of the major features of
winget
is that you can export a package list and import it on another device via
winget export
and
winget import
respectively, and as a result, the only compatible version of Dolphin is 5.0 - which we all know is far too old.

One solution, which would make this more user-friendly in the first place, would be to offer
.exe
or
.msi(x)
files that automatically install Dolphin (basically: unzip the dolphin
7z
file to
%ProgramFiles%
or
%AppData%
(or
%LocalAppData%
), create a shortcut on the Desktop, and complete. It also will need to be compatible with a
silent install
, but that isn't a huge deal given there are many - even OSS - programs supporting it.

Sorry if I put this in the wrong place, I've never made this kind of thing for Dolphin :P

Emulator - Emulator Issues #12084 (New): [Windows, Vulkan] Screen goes black with MSI Afterburner...https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/120842020-05-03T04:22:01ZAkiraJkr

The screen seems to turn black when you end up enabling MSI Afterburner's overlay to check stats, however, this issue seems to be exclusive to Vulkan, as I've tested, and this does not occur with neither D3D11/12 or OGL.

How to reproduce:

Start MSI Afterburner
Make sure the Render Backend is in Vulkan
Press Ctrl+H to enable the overlay
Screen turns black.

This was tested in Dolphin 5.0-11991, the latest dev build that was avaiable when I tested.

[PC specs]

Intel i5 650 3.20Ghz 2 cores(4 logical) 4 threads
Geforce GT 1030 GDDR5
4 GB RAM

Preview images of every backend tested, on the exact same screen(although the black screen happens no matter if it's in an in-game scenario, or a menu.

Emulator - Emulator Issues #11384 (Accepted): Zelda ucode games randomly hang on startup while us...https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/113842018-09-09T03:15:58ZZewia

Game Name?

Super Mario Sunshine

Game ID?

GMSE01

MD5 Hash?

0c6d2edae9fdf40dfc410ff1623e4119

What's the problem?

Every Zelda ucode game will randomly hang at startup on Windows when using the LLE recompiler DSP emulation option.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Select the LLE recompiler DSP emulation engine and boot any Zelda ucode game. After a few tries the game will eventually hang on startup. (It seems to be random) This bug seemingly only occurs on Windows.

What are your PC specifications?

Windows 10
Intel i7-6700K
nVidia GTX 1070

Is there any other relevant information?

This bug occurs specifically on Windows with the DSP LLE audio emulation option and only affects Zelda ucode games.

Emulator - Emulator Issues #9125 (New): Xenoblade - Incorrect Upscaled Lighting Effectshttps://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/91252015-11-29T19:17:28ZBighead.0Bighead.0@gmail.com

Game Name?

Xenoblade Chronicles - Any Region

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

I've known about this for years, but never reported it because I wasn't sure if it was a legit bug or not. I always just assumed OpenGL was more accurate than D3D and that was why there was a difference between the two. But now there is no way to get the correct effect, hence this issue report.

Some lighting effects are improperly upscaled, which used to look fine in OpenGL using EFB to RAM, but no longer looks correct since v4.0-7620. Xenoblade requires "Scaled EFB Copy" for higher IRs to have any effect. The lighting effects in question apply to:

Ether deposits

Lighting in High Entia Tomb

Monado III lighting

Cave exit lighting

These effects always looked incorrect in D3D, but could look correct with OpenGL and EFB to RAM. The PR that unified the EFB copy implementations also broke this in OpenGL.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Just find any area/object with these lighting effects.

Which versions of Dolphin did you test on? Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which versions of Dolphin used to work?

v4.0-7614 - The effect looks correct using OpenGL and EFB to RAM. D3D has always looked bad.
v4.0-7620 - The effect always looks bad no matter what backend/settings are used.

**Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
Infrastructure - Issue #6489 (Accepted): Write some documentation about the Windows symbol serverhttps://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/64892013-08-13T14:21:17Zdelrothdelroth@gmail.com

Running on symbols.dolphin-emu.org. It works fine and has symbols for every buildbot build, but it's undocumented afaict.

Emulator - Emulator Issues #6126 (Accepted): Write some "Guide to new Dolphin developers" wiki pagehttps://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/61262013-03-20T02:25:50Zdelrothdelroth@gmail.com

We're missing a lot of documentation that would help people know more about how to develop for Dolphin. We should create a wiki page explaining the global architecture of the project, how to use the infrastructure, who knows what in the development team, etc.

I'll most likely start working on it tomorrow, but if someone wants to start before that, go for it :P

My current TODO of things to explain:

Our dev workflow with Git: master is kind of stable, everything that is going to be worked on for more than 1-2 days goes to a separate branch. No rebase/merge --ff on branches pushed to the main repository.

Tools: Buildbot (+ WIP builders), irrawaddy, changes.dolphin-emu.org

Code architecture: what goes in Core/VideoCommon/AudioCommon/Common/Plugins/...

Global overview of the several components involved in emulation and how they communicate

Getting people to test your code: how to properly maintain a thread in the development forums to get as many people as possible to report issues before merging, who to ping on IRC, known useful testers, etc.

Who knows what in the team: who are the implicit maintainers of a subsystem (example: if I change GL stuff I probably want to ask degasus first, if someone changes DSP HLE stuff he should probably ask me, etc.)

Who maintains the wiki and how to contact them

Website/server infrastructure: where is the source code, where is it hosted, who has access to it, backups policy, how to edit the FAQ, etc.

Release process?

Translation: who is admin on Transifex, how to merge the translations from Transifex to the Dolphin codebase, etc.

[Add your ideas here]
