Emulator Issues #1028
closedSega games not using dual core correctly anymore
0%
Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.boot nights:jorney of dreams, or any sonic game
2.use dual core enabled and all the stuff like idle skip and optimize
quantizers. same results with trotle on or off
3.use ctrl+shift+esc to open task manager and ull see the game using only
50% of processor wich means its only using one of the cores and game is
running around 20 fps.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
80-90% processor use and game runs full 30 fps like before(rev 3195 and
bellow).
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
3495
Please provide any additional information below.
the gfx is waaaaay better than b4, rly rly better, but games runs half
speed and only uses 50% of processor, something got broken there.
im ataching screenshots of both nights and sonic and black knight.
my rig
c2d e6750 @3600 mhz(guess that speed is good enough for dolphin, always worked)
4gb men ram
2x geforce 9600(sli)
vista 64 sp1
sata 2 500 gb hard drive
(using real wiimote+nunchuk)

actualy, on further testing , all the games looks really slower now, and it isnt even
trying to use full processing power, alwauys use around 60%.

Don't use idle skipping with dual core and vice versa
Updated by jhonatan.teixeira over 15 years ago
well without idle skip now i get like 18 fps
2 fps less on rev 3530 even tho its using 80% of processing power
on zelda TP i used to get 14-18 fps on some areas and 30 on others, now i get 9 fps
on those areas and only 22 on the others, every update on ogl plugin is bringing less
performance to the emu, ive been testing this emu for almost over a year now, and
idle skip+dual core always worked, i got more than 100 posts on the foruns, and i
also have lots of posts on the old foruns, always providing feedback, positive or
negative criticism.
so, if idle skip cant be used with dual core mode, whats the point of it even
existing? dolphin cant do anything decent in single core mode, and only idle skip
provided decent speed on wii games, if i cant use it anymore with DC mode, then im
sry to say, dolphin has became slow for wii games, and will only be playable for gc
games.
but wait, i can downgrade to around rev 3300 and use DC+idle skip without any
problems and play those games full speed, but wait... even on this rev 3530 idle skip
- DC provides 2 or 3 extra fps, so i guess thats not the problem.

issue kind of fixed on rev 3545
but strangely, now these games doesnt requires 30 fps anymore, now they require 40,
and they are getting there, but if it drops to 38 for example its slow already.
i hope u guys getting my feedback.

I don't think this was ever a problem to begin with in my opinion. :\
But I ran Sonic Adventure DX and opened up the Task Manager and saw 100% CPU use and
all that jazz.
It's fixed, one way or another.

still
play sonic and black knight... on the snowy stages ull never get full speed, the emu
requires 60 fps now, but the game was designed to run at 30 fps originaly, even so
dolphin is requiring 60 fps since 3391 or so.
if u play it on 3390 ull get full speed all time even on these snowy stages at 30 fps.
if u getting 100% use of ur processor that means dolphin rly need all ur processing
power to run, on my case dolphin is not needing all processing power, in my case
dolphin is completing all the code without needing all my processing power, but hes
mistaken, hes not reaching full speed, but he think he does, anyway, just use rev
3390 to play sonic and black knights and nights jorney to dreams, or any other game
that was designed to run at 30 fps.
ex: Zelda TP, onechanbara bikini babes, sonic and secret rings and many others wich i
don have to test.
im telling u, if it was a problem of my system, the rev 3390 wouldnt do full speed
either, but i don think that a c2d at 3600mhz is botlenecked to emulate these games,
and i don think that a gf 9600 gt is bottlenecked either.
its a shame, Zelda TP has now sound, and i cant get full speed on it coz of that, it
like the own game is trying to run at 30 fps but the emu wants 60. i doubt im the
only one having this issue.

It's simple emulation issues... CPU is too slow :P
Though there is a point in what you say about framerates and such...
Anyway, Sega games run fine here...

Just testet old 33xx revs and I think jhonatan.teixeira is right. On 33xx games like
Nights run in full speed. On all actual builds Nights runs at max 50% and has some
sound gliches. Sonic Unleshead is faster on 33xx too.
Tested on Win7x64 with build 3303.

Those revs are from before the Watchdog change, could you try a patched (new)
revision and set the Watchdog value to 15 to see if it goes back to normal?
If you can compile, get the patch here
http://forums.dolphin-emu.com/thread-2926.html (you'll also find how to configure it
here)
Else, download a build from here
http://forums.dolphin-emu.com/thread-2332.html
It might prove my theory.
