Description

If the EmulationActivity is ever killed due to memory pressure, save state and stop emulation. Then on restoration, check for this special save state and pop if present.

The semantics around when an activity is killed and what's it's allowed to do before dying is kinda tricky. In a out-of-memory situation we might not be allowed to make a save state. Thus it might make more sense to always save state when the activity is stopped.
