Emulator Issues #10743
closedOpenGL Backend crashes with the recent Windows 10 Update
0%
Description
I've only tested with Mario Kart Wii but I think it happens with every game.
With the recent Windows 10 update (feels like something always goes wrong everytime Microsoft dishes them out) playing a game with the OpenGL backend will crash Dolphin on any recent(ish) revision.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(If you have just recently updated Windows 10) Attempting to load a game with OpenGL as the backend.
Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.
Yes the issue is present.
The latest version as I'm wiritng this is 5.0-6084.
Is the issue present in the latest stable version?
Probably not but I was not able to test that (for some reason the installer for 5.0 wouldn't progress past a certain point) but I tested the one just after that and it does not crash.
If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)
5.0-3981
If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer
[Attach any fifologs if possible, write a description of fifologs and screenshots here to assist people unfamiliar with the game.]
What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz
Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Video Card #2: NVIDIA GeForce 410M
RAM: 4.0 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 (build 15063), 64-bit
Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)
Not that I can think of.

Windows 10 updates likes to screw with your drivers behind your back.
Go reinstall your GPU drivers directly from the vendor's site and try again.

Ok, this was due to the Windows update mentioned, installed the latest drivers and it was back to normal.
