Emulator Issues #11259
closed[Feature Request]: Deleting ISOs should move them to the Recycling Bin/Trash
0%
Description
I think that deleting ISO/WBFS/GCZ/CISO/WAD/ELF/DOL/whatever files should move them to the Trash or Recycling Bin as opposed to the current behavior where they are permanently deleted. I suppose wanting to save space could be the reason for this design. But honestly, how often will the average user be deleting game ISOs? Additionally, many compressed game ISOs are only a gigabyte or two, especially for the GameCube, and WAD files among others take up a very small amount of space. In today's world having a few gigabytes in the Recycling Bin isn't a big deal (most users probably delete only one or two game ISOs at a time).
I would prefer having to deal with occasionally emptying my Recycling Bin because of a few game ISOs as opposed to having to redump a game disc because I accidentally deleted it.
This could be an option in the Config if it's a setting not everyone would like, though if so I think it would be best to be enabled by default.

I should be clear that here I used "ISO" as a general term for any type of Wii or GameCube game file.

The Recycle/Trash bin is OS-dependent (and on Linux it even varies depending on your desktop environment), so I highly doubt implementing this feature is practical.

I think it would be a lot better for us to just remove the delete function entirely. That's really something a users should be doing in their OS!

@Techjar You're right, and it seems Qt doesn't have any kind of universal move-to-trash API (per https://stackoverflow.com/questions/17964439/move-files-to-trash-recycle-bin-in-qt)

This can be closed since it doesn't seem feasible

I'd vote for just removing the delete function as well.

- Status changed from New to Questionable
I've used it unironically when compressing games to test stuff.
I don't know what the option is but I'm okay with removing the option or doing nothing?

- Status changed from Questionable to Won't fix
Not feasible due to Qt lacking such a feature.
