Description

Game Name?

Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Super Smash Bro. Melee, Wave Race Blue Storm, Crash Nitro Kart, and others.

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)

GZLE01, GZ2E01, GALE01, GWRE01, GCNE7D

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

When the widescreen gecko code is enabled, these games will regularly stutter and freeze, sometimes in ways that are predictable and reproducible. This is regardless of any other dolphin settings. Disabling the widescreen gecko code fixes the issues.

This also effects other gecko codes, such as SMS 60fps patch, Twilight Princess Bloom Hacks, and others, but the widescreen gecko codes are the easiest to reproduce.

This is with default settings and Async UberShaders. Disabling dual core, enabling GPU sync, and various other sync settings have no effect.

Gecko Codes were obtained from dolphin wiki page. Force 16:9 aspect ratio selected. NTSC versions of each game.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Twilight Princess - with widescreen code enabled, start a new game, the intro cutscene will stutter three times. Once while camera panning down over the water, once in the middle of dialogue, and once at the end when the camera switches to Link's face full frame. Gameplay will also stutter at random.

Wind Waker - Widescreen code enabled, on the starting island walking about will cause the game stutter at random at a rate of about once ever sixty seconds.

Smash Bros. Melee - widescreen code enabled will cause the game to randomly stutter at a rate of about once every thirty seconds.

Wave Race Blue Storm - periodic stuttering at specific points in every track.

Crash Nitro Cart- Single Player -> Quick Race -> Easy -> Inferno Island

The game will lag near the starting line, and as the track bends to the lava section almost every time.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

Tested on 5.0.8357 and 5.0.8289.

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

Yes, 5.0

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

Nearest I can tell this is a long standing side effects of these Gecko Codes.

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

Intel 4690k - 4.4ghz
Nvidia GTX 1080
Windows 10 64bit
16GB memory
4tb RAID 1 Storage

I know that Gecko codes are always "extra" on top of good emulation, but if I figure that if the devs don't know about it then it can't ever be solved. Thank you.

I want to note that not every game that has a widescreen gecko patch has this problem. Wario World, Spyro A Hero's Tail, Spyro Enter the Dragon Fly, and others don't have stuttering issues with or without the widescreen patch applied.

Want over my games one more time. Kirby's Air Ride, Mario Kart Double Dash, Starfox Assault, Sonic Heroes, Sponge Bob Square Pants: Battle for Bikini Bottom are also effected.

Super Mario Sunshine and Super Monkey Ball experience stuttering but much less infrequently - a rate of once ever few minutes for SMS, and only at the beginning of some stages for Super Monkey Ball.
