Description

Game Name?

Super Mario Sunshine (GC, PAL)

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)

GMSP01

MD5 Hash? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab, MD5 Hash: Compute)

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

The AMD video driver (name could be incorrect) crashes after the intro. (I created a ticket for Twilight Princess GC,PAL around 20 days ago (link: https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/11363), because of the same issue, but in that game it crashed after a random amount of time!) This happens on Vulkan, but not on Direct3D11. (The only two I tested.)

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Starting the game on Vulkan.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

Yes, it's version 5.0-8720

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

No, because you can't choose Vulkan as video backend, but I tried a version from two months ago (Dolphin 5.0-8410) and it didn't crash.

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

I'm going to try more versions of Dolphin, till I find the first broken version. If I find it I will post it in the comment section.

If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer

I don't think that a fifolog will help, but I made a minute long video showing the issue: https://youtu.be/5R5JekK9Wic How it's supposed to be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1j8YRgGVI9c

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

CPU: Intel I5 6600K,
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270X (Club 3D royalQueen CoolStream 2GB) (This one: https://de.hardware.info/produkt/205776/club-3d-radeon-r9-270x-royalqueen-coolstream-2gb/spezifikationen)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit
AMD Adrenalin Driver version: 18.9.1

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

The YouTube video I created, wich shows the configuration of Dolphin, the configuration of the Amd software and how it crashes: https://youtu.be/5R5JekK9Wic

I found the first broken version: Dolphin 5.0-8661.

5.0-8661 doesn't make sense for this. Maybe there was a random factor when testing.

Ok, I only tested if it hung up on the "M". It hung up once after the "M" but I don't know when because I was AFK at that time. Maybe I will test again today or tomorrow.

Ok, I tested a little bit older version and it crashed at 0:26 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1j8YRgGVI9c but before you can hear peach. I will continue testing tomorrow.

Perhaps it's a typo and they meant this - https://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/db55c36f0920f318dee5a2f98471c1fd21e5e3b4/ - 5.0-8651

On this version it crashes when you see the shinesprite and it makes this noise. Before the last pling of the noise it crashes.

Now I tried the version Dolphin 5.0-8606 and it crashes at the "M" part.

I think that the problem could have something to do with the AMD graphics driver, because of the 10 versions of Dolphin I tried from 1 Month old to over a year old.
The versions wich crashed at the "M":
Dolphin 5.0-8651
Dolphin 5.0-8468
Dolphin 5.0-8267
Dolphin 5.0-7514
Dolphin 5.0-5817
Dolphin 5.0-4636

The versions wich crashed at the shinesprite:
Dolphin 5.0-8205
Dolphin 5.0-6911
Dolphin 5.0-5643
Dolphin 5.0-3345

If you can tell me what information you need and where I can find it, then I will give it to you.

I tried it today with the newest version of the AMD drivers (version 18.9.3) without save data and with the newest version of Dolphin (5.0-8757). It now crashes at the screen where it asks you if you want to play in 50 or 60 hz.

There's a decent chance this is a driver issue so I'm just going to let someone else determine it.

#11386 appears to be the same issue.

That one has a possible bisect to a specific version of the graphics drivers.
(I don't have AMD hardware to test this myself)

Could you check if the bisect?

Worked to 18.3.2 -> https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-18-3-2
Broken After 18.3.3 -> https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-18-3-3

(Vulkan 1.1 support added in 18.3.3)

  • Status changed from Questionable to Working as intended

No response from user and driver crashes aren't really our fault. Will re-open issue upon request.
