What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

When I start a room, and invite my friend, then start the game, the Wii saves window progresses and closes normally, but for him it gets stuck on 100%, then Dolphin locks up, will not close even with Task Manager, and has to be force killed by CMD. I have never seen this before and I have no way of testing this since it doesn't happen to me.
The game window is permanently black since it will never start on his end.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Start a room with Wii saves. Pray it happens?

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

I don't know and I have no way of finding out.

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

His PC is as follows, with a NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics card.

How do you even know this is related to save sync? Did you test with it disabled?

You also did not say what version you are using which is grounds for issue invalidation, so please provide that.

In my confusion I messed up and forgot to say. It is 5.0-10648. It seems to also happen when it's disabled. It seems to just happen in general, but it can't possibly be the computer since I've played Netplay on that same PC before.

Well save sync obviously isn't the issue then. Are you both using matching dumps? Use the MD5 check option in the NetPlay window.

Yes.

Okay, now I tried with a friend which I used to Netplay with, and now the same thing happens to him too, and if he hosts, it happens to me.

Alright, it seems like if we just launch the game normally without mods instead of using Gecko, it works, so Netplay and Gecko seem to no longer work together.

Can you do a bisect so we can see if this a new issue or not?

Actions #9

Updated by Roadhog360-2 over 4 years ago

I can try later, when I have time to bisect two Dolphin builds running Netplay on each one. For now, can I confirm if anyone on your end is getting this, too?

Also, what exactly do you mean by Gecko? Are you referring to the cheat codes, or are you booting Gecko OS?

Ah, I just noticed the game name says Gecko, so that means the latter. This might be the same issue as 11687 then (although we still don't entirely know what happened there). Try having both players run a portable install with fresh configs.

I'll see if they're willing to go through the trouble of all this testing. I'd hate to badger them with testing they're not interested in when they don't really understand much about Dolphin and just want to play the game, so I might not have much testing to go off of here. I'll ask if he's willing to try what you're telling me to do.

Also, I checked out that issue and I can confirm that's not the same thing. It says it desynced at frame 0, but the game would still run. In this case the game does not run and remains black, and the only way out is Task Manager.

Alright, he isn't up for testing at the moment, I can try asking again later.

I know it's not the same behavior, what I'm suggesting is the cause might be the same (some messed up mystery setting). Try the portable instances before you bother with the bisect.

Alright, I'll try this when I can.

Hello, I am simply not able to find the time to do this for every single build of Dolphin backwards when I don't know what Dolphin version this started happening or what the problem is, if it's Dolphin.

I can say that this exact thing happens with another friend, who I previously was able to do it fine with.

I can still sync Wii saves and play online in the latest development builds. Without a bisect, there isn't much to be done. If you do find the time to bisect this issue in the future, please make a new issue report or update this one.
