What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

Crashes Dolphin upon loading, before any screen output can be displayed

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Opening the Wii Shop Channel, either from the Wii Menu or directly from Dolphin.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

Yes (5.0-12237)

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

[Yes/No and version number here]

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

Tool forum thread says it is currently "Broken Due To Infra Changes"

If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

CPU: Intel Celeron N3050
RAM: 2GB
GPU: Intel HD Graphics (Braswell)
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

I remember reading a bug from a while back about all internet related actions on multiple games freezing Dolphin and it being related to USB (I think) however I can't find it now.

Forgot to fill in that the issue persists with the stable Dolphin 5.0

While it is not necessarily the cause of the crash, I could see the Wii Shop Channel causing problems in Dolphin given that the service has been discontinued since Jan 30 2019.

That shouldn't have anything to do with the crash. Dolphin has been shown to run the Wii Shop Channel correctly after that date (and by correctly, I mean it behaves like on console, with the same limited feature set).

True. Sorry, I was still waking up via "instantaneous caffeine overdose" (aka Starbucks). It would have been better for me to have asked: "Could the issue be due to code changes by Nintendo in relation to the closing of the service?"

How do I enable logging/find the log from the crash? I could upload it if it helps.

Never mind, the log freezes before any output can be shown. I took a screenshot of the frozen window, though.

Oh, it's the panic alert deadlock. I have two PRs open for dealing with it:

https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/8763
https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/8819

Alternatively, disabling dual core and/or Pause on Focus Loss or panic handlers should let you avoid the crash.

I already tried disabling panic handlers but just takes away the "Critical" box, still crashing Dolphin.

  • Status changed from New to Working as intended

The Wii Shop Channel requires a fully dumped NAND to access. It will not run with Dolphin's default NAND as it lacks keys and various other data to connect. If you believe you have a properly dumped NAND with a unique Wii key that isn't banned, please feel free to update the issue report. I can still access the Wii Shop at this time on my account from Dolphin. The popup I believe you were hitting had to do with not having a proper NAND, but due to the dualcore issue, I cannot be sure.
