Description

Game Name?

Pokémon Colosseum

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, Properties, Info tab)

MD5 Hash? (right click the game in the game list, Properties, Verify tab, Verify Integrity button)

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

When I go to Tools > Load GameCube Main Menu > NTSC-U, the GC main menu works fine. However, when I turn the emulated joystick up and load Pokémon Colosseum, the game's dialogue gets garbled and option menus flicker or have invisible text. This doesn't happen if I run the game directly from Dolphin's game list, and it works fine whether I have "Skip Main Menu" on or off in the GameCube Config settings.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Go to Tools > Load GameCube Main Menu > NTSC-U
  2. Turn the emulated joystick up (I pressed "E"), then press Start (I pressed "Return")
  3. When the game loads, the first thing you'll notice is that the options for Progressive Mode are flickering. Continue, and there'll be more issues.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

I found this bug yesterday, and this was the latest version at the time.

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

[Yes/No and version number here]

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

[First broken version number here (if applicable)]

If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer

[Attach any fifologs if possible, write a description of fifologs and screenshots here to assist people unfamiliar with the game.]
I've attached a screenshot of glitching dialogue. In action, the text was also changing as the dialogue continued to display.

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
CPU: Apple M1
GPU: Integrated (8-core)
OS: macOS Big Sur 11.5.1

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

I've attached the GC ROM I'm using. Dolphin does complain that it's not a good dump, and I press OK instead of "Ignore for this session".

  • Subject changed from Glitchy text when playing Pokémon Colosseum from GC Main Menu to Dolphin can't detect title changes from GameCube IPL to inserted disc

This game needs the texture cache accuracy set to safe. Currently we don't have any way to detect title changes from the GC IPL to an inserted disc, so the game INI for this game never gets loaded and the texture cache accuracy doesn't get automatically changed. Not sure if there is a non-hacky way to detect this type of GameCube title change.
