Description

Game Name?

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, Properties, Info tab)

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

During the Level 1-5 ("Something Cannon", can't remember correctly), the game consistently crashes with an error message. I wasn't actually able to complete the level, since it always crashes sooner or later.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Just play the level, with the setting described in the last section.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

Yes, I am using version 15445.

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

The latest stable version (5.0) doesn't run the game (a black screen is displayed, and nothing else happens).

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

(...)

If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer

Not a graphical issue.

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

AMD Ryzen 9 3950x; Radeon RX 6600 XT, Windows 10.

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

I don't have a particularly custom configuration. I've switched to Vulkan and it seems to have cancelled the previous graphic settings, however:

  • I was probably using Hybrid Ubershaders, since the game was stuttering very hard with the default setting
  • I was obviously using the DirectX 12
  • I had (and have) the controller with the volume silenced

I have a very similar error with D3D12 in Pitfall: The Lost Expedition and Pitfall: The Big Adventure (basically the Wii port of the former). I get the following error on D3D12 video backend as soon as the intro cutscenes finishes. If I "Ignore for this session", the game keeps playing, but the video is frozen.
Dolphin: 5.0-16101
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
OS: Windows 10

I just finished that level with my PR and it didn't crash. So hopefully this fixes it.

(Or it only happens on AMD drivers but let's stay optimistic for now.)
