Emulator Issues #13148
openSimAnimals: "pointer not correctly detected in-game"
0%
Description
Game Name?
SimAnimals
Game ID?
Presumably R4AE69.
MD5 Hash?
unknown, I'm creating this issue for someone else
What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.
I'm creating this issue for the YouTube channel "Free Emulator". They've been making ~10 minute videos for all US Wii games in alphabetic order for quite a while, so I trust them to know their way around Dolphin's options. The video description mentions this:
"[ ] Store EFB Copies to Texture Only -- This game in particular needs this setting to be turned off in order for it to detect your pointer correctly in-game. Also, I only got it to work with version 5.0... newer builds didn't do the job."
What steps will reproduce the problem?
unknown
Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.
yes, 5.0-1816? (previous video from 4 days earlier used 5.0-18143)
Is the issue present in the latest stable version?
No, 5.0 works.
If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version?
unknown
What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)
AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
NVIDIA RTX 3060
Windows 10
Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

This is an issue that seems to only happen with higher internal resolution. The pointer is detected with "Store EFB Copies to Texture Only" disabled and using native IR.
I haven't compiled it yet to double check but it appears to be caused by https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/4189
(There is no build available.)
Dolphin 5.0-550 works with high IR and "Store EFB Copies to Texture Only" disabled.
The next available build is Dolphin 5.0-562 and it is not working there with the same settings.
(I have also noticed that VC games, FBKE01 for example, look worse with high IR from that bisect onwards also.)
