Description

Game Name?

Any Wii game

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, Properties, Info tab)

Any Wii game with matching checksums across all copies used by the players (we tested Mario Super Sluggers, Mario Party 8, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii)

MD5 Hash? (right click the game in the game list, Properties, Verify tab, Verify Integrity button)

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

Wii Netplay physically won't work. We use all the right settings and hardware ("Emulated Wiimotes", Dolphinbars, etc), yet with any Wii game we load, it'll instantly crash for all of us. Conversely, Gamecube games work perfectly.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Start Netplay of any Wii game (we tested Mario Super Sluggers, Mario Party 8, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii and all had the same results). MAKE SURE THE CHECKSUMS MATCH!!!!
  2. Make sure all players joining are using DolphinBars and Wiimotes set to the "Emulated Wii Remote" input mode using the provided "Stock" profile.
  3. Let people join and allocate them to each controller slot as necessary. (Wii1, Wii2, etc.)
  4. Set Data to "Load Host's Save Data Only" as the "Load and Write Host's Save Data" prevents Netplay sessions from starting (as in it doesn't even start the game when told, no hangs or crashes), which is another bug!
  5. Click Start
  6. Crash will occur on all instances of dolphin across all players once game window opens.

Is the issue present in the latest development version? For future reference, please also write down the version number of the latest development version.

5.0-18669

Is the issue present in the latest stable version?

N/A, base 5.0 is ancient and didn't support Wii Netplay

If the issue isn't present in the latest stable version, which is the first broken version? (You can find the first broken version by bisecting. Windows users can use the tool https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-unofficial-dolphin-bisection-tool-for-finding-broken-builds and anyone who is building Dolphin on their own can use git bisect.)

If your issue is a graphical issue, please attach screenshots and record a three frame fifolog of the issue if possible. Screenshots showing what it is supposed to look like from either console or older builds of Dolphin will help too. For more information on how to use the fifoplayer, please check here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

Player 1 (Me): Ryzen 9 5950X, 64GB RAM, RTX 3080 running OpenGL, Windows 10
Player 2: Intel i5 1165G7, 8GB RAM, Windows 10

Is there anything else that can help developers narrow down the issue? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files, savefiles, savestates)

Was working for me last time I had a chance to play on netplay. Odds are someone has something configured wrong on one of the computers or there is a regression in recent builds. This might be something better to handle in support, but honestly Wii Netplay is so touchy that any tiny problem can break it.

The bug is probably more that Wii Netplay is so sensitive to things rather than it being outright broken again.
