Emulator Issues #1333
closedExtreme slowdown in SADX, Egg Carrier captain's quarters
0%
Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Start Sonic Adventure DX
- Enter the captain's quarters on the Egg Carrier
3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The area loads, but when Sonic is standing about halfway towards the front
of the room hundreds of polygons draw simultaneously, slowing Dolphin down
to less than 1FPS. The polygons also stretch crazily across the screen,
blocking the view.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
SVN R 4033 x86 WinXP Pro
Please provide any additional information below.
This is avoidable if you move to the back of the room and whatever is
causing the bug unloads from memory. The extreme slowdown may have the
potential to crash some computers completely. I'm using the Japanese
version of SADX, so I'm not sure if this happens with USA/PAL or not. Can
someone test this for me? This is probably a distortion of a part of the
level because nothing with this many vertices would load under normal
conditions. Use wireframe to navigate and speed the game up a little. It
should be possible to finish the mission and exit the room.

The object causing this is the little window above the laser gun thing that pops up.

Is "Optimize Quantizers" enabled ?
This is typically the kind of issues it can produce, even though it's much faster :(
You should try to disable it, also what's wrong with the vps counter ?? 1/6 ? are you
using the "watchdog versions" ?

I just checked, no problems on my end using the latest revision.
Did you update your graphics card drivers recently? What's your graphics card?

I always have optimize quantizers on but I will experiment with it. SADX runs
weirdly natively at 60fps, but 30fps in cutscenes (or an in-engine FS of 1?).
Probably because it was oringally a DC game and the DC wasn't always able to render
60fps. For some reason Dolphin appears to limit things like menus to 30fps. I'm sure
this isn't lag because menus are easy on CPU and the frame rate is 30fps exactly.
Seems like a bug in the frame limiter.
But back on the subject, I am using watchdog, as AFAIK all the new unofficial revs
use WD, correct? I'll download the latest rev later and try again. My GPU drivers
should be up to date but I'll check.
