r4686 is the last revision that gives me excellent performance. With it FPS
is constantly high and the sound works perfectly. r4687 drops the
performance quite a bit and it's worse with the newest revision.
Since there has been lots of general improvements after r4686, I'd like to
be able to upgrade my version. Everything works generally better with
r4984, but the performance issues makes most of the games unplayable, so I
use an older revision.
I am running 64-bit Linux system.

I can confirm this. I'm still using 4986.

There are so many revisions in between, and so little info given, that this issue is
pretty pointless.
