Emulator Issues #2359
closedReal XFB makes the screen flicker
0%
Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Open Dolphin, select Open GL plugin with Real XFB activated
- Play Crash Nitro kart.
3.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
5120 SVN with Windows 7 32 bits.
Please provide any additional information below.
The game without Real XFB, stays buggy just like before. Although, now it
shows correctly the 3D areas (in older SVN's it didn't).
The business here is that if you activate the Real XFB, the game gets full
graphics (really, all graphics are showed correctly, even the intro movies,
and loading screens!), but it shakes the screen.
Direct 3D one, it's buggy, doesn't show some 2D graphics, and it's slower
and jumpy (it jumps some frames from second to second).
i tested with dual core, single core, with the normal and experimental
recompiler.
So, there is something you devs can use from this report?
I don't know if this could help another games, i don't own too many games.

Yes, the Direct 3D does not have the Real XFB option. It is not implemented yet.
This is not a bug.

No you don't get it. Sometging in Real XFB makes Crash nitro kart runs with full
graphics, but with the screen shaking! Does this mean something?

Not shure if it's pal or NTSC, but my copy is european (as i live in europe), so, i'm
99% shure it is PAL.

see in many issues this "Shake error", but is not an error, games using xfb works as
real hardware, in real hardware, using interlacing, the xfb is moved up and down 2
lines, this is hacked in the emulator by substracting those 2 lines, but some games
already remove this by moving the efb read area by 2 pixel, anulating our hack, and
making the game frame bump up and down.
the only real solution is make the compensation hack optional and let the user choose
per game if it must be aplied or not in a certain games

Didn't knew about that.
That option should be implemented then if you can, this game works perfectly with XFB.
I'll try to see if another game shakes, but i don't have too many games ^^"

A useful workaround, if the game supports it, is to enable progressive scan mode in Dolphin.
Updated by wespipes69 over 14 years ago
Looks like this can't be set per game anymore (progressive scan). Any way to
reenable that and maybe call it "XFB shake hack" or something?
Updated by wespipes69 over 14 years ago
Actually, that turns out to just be a Wii only option. But I've only seen this on GC
games - Mario Golf is an example. Any way to do progressive on GC games or can that
be implemented to combat this?
