Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Problem is persistent across all settings and games.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Null question for my problem. If I had to pick an answer though, I would
say that OpenGL does work fine, but DirectX should work better/faster for
me.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The newest Dolphin 2.0 build for Win x64 as of May 24, 2010. I Would give
an exact build number, but it is oddly not under the "about" tab of the
Dolphin GUI. (where it should be.) As for OS: Vista Ult x64. build 6001
SP1 (and it's all up to date.)
Please provide any additional information below.
I have tried to force Dolphin to use the DirectX plugin by manually
modifying the entry "GFXPlugin = Plugins/Plugin_VideoOGL.dll" to
read "GFXPlugin = Plugins/Plugin_VideoDX9.dll" in the file "Dolphin.ini".
but it just fails to load the game. I know that I have DX9c installed.
Even if I didn't DX10 has backward compatibility with DX9 apps. And Vista
comes with DX10 stock. Plus, all my other DX9 apps work fine. So there
should not be a problem there.
It's also worth noting that I also have a problem with Dolphin not using
my HD3870, in favor of using the on board HD3200. I can work around this
buy disabling the lesser card in device manager. This doesn't fix things
though. I believe this is a known problem with Dolphin and multi-GPU
systems, I only mention it because it could be related.
Full system specs:
OS: Vista Ult x64. SP1 build 6001

RAM: 4GB of Patriot Memories Black 8500EL series 1066 DDR2 dual channel
RAM Clocked at 2x400Mhz (800 DDR) 5-5-5-12 (all the fault of my CPU)
Video: Sapphire Radeon HD3870 @ stock clocks & The On board HD3200 @ stock
(for multi-monitor usage)

I needed to be clearer a bought one thing. When I said "This doesn't fix things
though" I meant It doesn't fix the DirectX plugin problem. It fixes the preferred
rendering device problem. Of course, I would rather have an GUI option to choose the
rendering device my self. (wink, wink... Jab, Jab).

- Status changed from New to Invalid
Even if you have DirectX 9,10,11 w/e, you still need to update DirectX.
Look on the forums for download links.

Thanks, I knew it was some thing stupid and small. The fact is that I did look
through the forums first. I even have a post there to prove it. Shuda looked harder
I guess. Yeah, I did the same thing others have done. I went and downloaded the
redistributable instead of using the web updater. Since this problem is so common,
Why doesn't Dolphin detect and tell the end user that they need to update DirectX???
This seams kinda important don't you think? It being the better video plugin for
this video game emulator.
