Emulator Issues #3358
closedSound looping in NBA 2k3 & Michael Jackson
0%
Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Start the game and proceed to main menĂ¹
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
If you move through the option, every time you scroll down or up the sound effects keep looping so if you continue to scroll, the audio continues to add 1 sound effect at a time. So when you start a game you have an everlasting sound effect looping messed up with gameplay audio (very disturbing).
Dolphin version with the problem? Other Dolphin version without the
problem?
Every version that I've tried has this problem.
32-bit or 64-bit and any other build parameters?
32-bit - DSP-HLE plugin both Dsound and OpenAL
OS version and versions of tools/libraries used?
WinXP SP3 - Sblaster X-FI gameredition
Please provide any additional information below.
- before I get to the menu, I receive these 2 messages, but the game doesn't hang:
GFX FIFO: Unknown opcode (0x1)
This means one of the following:
The emulated GPU got desynced, disabling dual core can help
Command stream corrupted by some serious memory bug
This really is an unknown opcode (unlikely)
Some opther sort of bug
Dolphin will now likely crash or hang enjoy
and:
Unknown pointer address prefix 3b, report this to the devs: 0x3BC9119C Continue?
- the DSP-LLE hasn't got the "looping" problem, but as usual it is super skippy and very very slow...

I am having the same problem. This is my favorite Bball game ever, so I'd like it to work.

In Michael Jackson Experience you have sound looping only before starting to dance when you point the cursor over the button "P1 press here to start the game", other buttons in the menĂ¹ don't loop (maybe because the sound effect is of a different type?)

I have to correct myself: after some more testing I have to say that other sound effects in the menus loop too...

I know nothing about programming, but, since the issue could be very difficult to solve (I really don't know, maybe not?) could be a good idea to have a simple "trick" (for example using an hotkey) in order to reset the sound (clearing the cache or buffer - I really don't know how works a sound plugin). In this way you could eliminate the looping and then finally go in-game with only the normal music, because when you hit the reset button you are on the button which causes the loop, you don't need no more to move somewhere else and then you just click the button without making a new sound effect (already palayed and resetted)...so the game should load normally without looping sound.
Not so easy to explain, but I hope that somebody has understood what I'm trying to say:-)

I heard it works great using DSPLLE and this build:

You still don't get complete smooth sound, but anyway it's a great improve...don't know why this patch isn't implemented in normal builds, but maybe there are compatibility problems...

With this patch Michael Jackson is almost perfect...

Issue 4124 has been merged into this issue.

This is marked as a dup of 4452, but that issue was closed and it was asked that individual issues be created instead.
Due to the way this was handled it's unclear when the issues here were addressed, but for future notice they seem to have been in some revision prior to 4.0-2741.
