Just checked and everything is correct...
It's something about your config...

Actions #2

Updated by frango0010 over 13 years ago

Post a SS of your config or describe them, please. The aspect ratio of your screen also seems to be wrong.

Actions #3

Updated by frango0010 over 13 years ago

About the aspect ratio, it seems you're setting it on the Graphics Tab, well, with Wii games, don't do that... Leave the Graphics Tab Aspect Ratio as AUTO, and set it on the main Wii configuration tab, so you won't have any distortion due to wrong aspect ratio.

Wel, my config is dx9, enablfe efb access to cpu, efb to texture, I've 1024x768 because of mr tv hd ready and selected stretch to screen, nothing else of special, I activated pixel lighting and force 16x filtering! Mm... The aspect ratio can cause all this problems??O.o

Ok tested with various settings and nothing, I don't know how you make it works good, but for me it looks wrong... I tried with aspect ratio on auto and with opengl too but this issue i'ts not fixed... Beside for me this issue is ever existed!

PLs tell me your config and I will use them and will watch if it looks as it should!

Tried with safe texture cache and with efb to RAM too, still nothing!

What graphics card do you have? Maybe it is driver related or something...

Actions #8

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

I've an ATI 5870 sapphire, driver are the last 10.10!

Actions #9

Fixed!:) Maybe it was a problem with ATI CCC! I downloaded r6325, rmoved everything and copyed only savegamnes than re-configured all and now it works perfectly!:) Strange, also because this issue exist for me from a lot of time! Now it's ok!:) Sorry to all, my issue!:P

Nope, after the first time, I'm not been able to makle it look correctly...!:( I made the same thing but nothing... The only options that I remember was different is "Skip GC bios", strangely I leave it disabled but when I load a game and than I close the game the oiptions "Skip Gc bios" is enabled altough I leave it disabled.... Can someone post your his config? You too, frango0010, I saw that for you it looks good, can you tell me the configuration?

Actions #11

Updated by frango0010 over 13 years ago

Config posted on SS...

Now, about the Aspect Ratio, it surely isn't causing the issue, but it's distorting the screen... You should set your Aspect Ratio, on Wii config tab, as 4:3, as you're using a 4:3 resolution, so the screen won't be distorted... And always set the Graphics tab Aspect Ratio as Auto...

After many tests...

"Force 16x antisotropic filtering" cause that issue and maybe other issues too!!

Are you using the widescreen hack?

Don't use it, it will make graphics distorted outside of the efb/cutoff regions or whatever.

See here for more information:

Also, "Skip GC bios" can only be disabled if you're running a GAMECUBE game, and have a dumped bios file... Anyway, it doesn't affect anything...

Thanks to all but the problem was really the force 16x filtering!! Now it's ok, this never got me any problme but now it create this issue!!

Actions #16

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

However thanks to all!:) Try to see if that options cause that problme for you too!

Xtreme2Damax: No I never used that problem since it only break video!:P

Tell me if it's correct and if it's as it should be:

Sounds like your issue is related to video card drivers, I use 16x AF without any problems.

Actions #18

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

I've an ATI, maybe this can be the problem!

Actions #19

Updated by frango0010 over 13 years ago

not only the water seems to be right on these last SSs, but also the aspect ratio seems to be correct...

Actions #20

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

Ok totally figured out the problem! As you can see also in last images water was still too much transaprent, those problems was caused bu forceing 16 x anisotropic filter and but 4xSSAA look at screenshots:

If someone else is having this issue please report here, it might be an ATI issue or just mine problem maybe drivers... should I create another issue or I should wait that developers lokk at this issue?

At least for me it's impossible to use SSAA and force 16x filter!!

Here, the dissappearance of the water texture doesn't seem to have any link with forcing AF filter on 16x or AA! For me, this problem seems to be only fixed by checking "native mipmaps" wether you have chosen OpenGL or DirectD9. I'm using revision 6314 with an nVidia 7900 GT card.

Greetings,

John

MAybe it is because you've a nvidia while I've an Ati! I will try disabling that too!:)

  • Status changed from New to Fixed

I don't think this is related to a driver bug, as JohnGrigius said, this is fixed by enabling Native Mipmaps, some games including Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy use pre-calculated mipmaps with various textures, and use this trick to render the water with different shades across distance.

Actions #25

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

But as you can see in frango0010 settings, native mipmaps is enabled, but anyway for him SMG looks right!! Why?

Actions #26

Updated by JohnGrigius over 13 years ago

Gi...: That's the fix for the water texture, you have to enable native mipmaps, not disabling it ;)

Actions #27

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

No no guys for me it's still not fixed!:(
--In all my previous images, "native mipmaps" was always ENABLED--
Enabling or disabling native mipmaps doesn't change anything for me with 16 x and 4xssaa....
as you can clearly see! For me 4xssaa breake something, only water too transparent, 16xaf and disabling mipmaps breake it totally, and mipmaps enabled it's like 4xssaa and not correct...
What can the problem be?:( For me nothing, except disabling 4xssaa and 16xaf, fix only a part of this issue......

Actions #28

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

I also tried the same identical settings of frango0010 so without 4xssaa and 16xaf and with native mipmaps enabled but for me it's still not fixed!!:( this problem is really annoying me and I don't know what's the problem...
My last image is made with that settings... as tou can see it's not totally fixed...

Actions #29

Updated by JohnGrigius over 13 years ago

Hmmm... I thought that the last image you posted (only mm enabled.png) was the correct water texture but you're saying that it's too transparent? I thought it's supposed to be that way (see my version beneath). For me, I have AF on 16x and native mipmaps enabled. I don't have AA enabled.

Btw: Damn, you actually get 60 FPS on that level? Which PC from the future did you buy? :P

Actions #30

Updated by JohnGrigius over 13 years ago

Ok, I now understand exactly what you mean Gi... and I've found the problem. Under the General tab you have to choose for the internal resolution either "Auto (fractional)", "Auto (integral)" or "Native" to fix the water transparency. It seems that choosing 2x or 3x will make the water too transparent indeed. Hope this works for you.

Actions #31

Updated by giaga7 over 13 years ago

Yesterday night I made other tests and as you said, setting internal resolution to 2x,3x,fractional make the water looks bad, setting it to native make it right... I don't know why but it seems that everything that make the game more definied and clear breake water, so 2x,3x, SSAA, 16x anisotropic filtering and so on breake it!:( I don't know if it's an issue or it's normal because wii is in 480p but I think this is an issue!
