Emulator Issues #3438
closedDolphin fails to download Gecko Codes for .WAD games (Virtual Console/Wiiware)
0%
Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Launch Dolphin with Virtual Console or WiiWare games on your list
- Right click one of those games and go to Properties
- Click the Gecko Codes tab
- Click "Download Codes (WiiRD Database)
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect Dolphin to retrieve codes from the database. Instead, it returns a "Failed to download codes." error message.
Dolphin version with the problem? Other Dolphin version without the
problem?
Dolphin SVN R6325 x64. No other Dolphin version that I know of can retrieve the codes from the database.
32-bit or 64-bit and any other build parameters?
64 bit, no other build parameters (if there are any, I got my build from dolphin-emulator.com if that helps).
OS version and versions of tools/libraries used?
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Please provide any additional information below.
I believe I know the reason as to why Dolphin does this. When Dolphin requests a code list for a specific game, it sends whatever Dolphin lists as the Game Code. For example, for Megaman 9 NTSC-U (the E version on the database website) - Dolphin has 'WR9E08' as the Game Code. However, the database only lists the Game Code for this version of Megaman 9 as 'WR9E'; the E is all the database needs to identify the region of the game. So my recommendation is when Dolphin sends requests to the database, just send the the Game Code with the last two numerical digits at the end.
That's my quick and simple guess at the matter anyway. You might want to try something different. :P
(not related to the issue, but while you're at it - can we find a way to easily sort the codes within dolphin? I know it's based on the order they were added on the database, but I wish it could sort it out alphabetically, heh)

Me and my grammar mistakes. In the "Please provide any additional information below." part, for my solution on the problem, I meant to say "...just send the Game Code withOUT the last two numerical digits at the end".
Sorry about that. :P

Oh oops here's some research.
While Dolphin lists each Game Code like 'WR9E08' for all games, WAD/GCM/ISO etcetc, the database will only recognize the game code with the two digits at the end for everything BUT Wads. So what you might want to do is make it so Dolphin makes a special rule for when it sends the request with the Game Code for a .wad to only send the Game Code without the last two digits.
Does that make sense? :S

Lol, first check if there are codes to download from geckocodes.org and then try pressing the "Download Codes (WiiRD Database)" button.

Sonic Colors isn't even a WAD game, so this issue report isn't relevant to your problem...
Make sure that you're using the latest development version of Dolphin. There's a problem with Gecko code downloading in older versions like 5.0.
