Emulator Issues #3786
closedWiimote wont reconnect after being disconnected by the Game

Description
so i am trying to get multiple real wiimotes to work while playing goldeneye with my brother. but my issue is that with one wiimote i can pair it with my PC using windows Bluetooth and it works fine, i can open dolphin and go to wiimote and change it to "real wiimote" and it when i click okay it rumbles and syncs up with the wiimote and everything is fine, if i go in configure and change its attachment to classic controller it works as well just perfect, my issue is when i try a second controller. i can pair it with windows just fine, and i have even a few times gotten it to sync up in dolphin so that it says that 2 wiimotes are paired up. after that when i try to go into a game i have tried several ways, enabling both controllers from the get-go and starting, starting with just one and connecting the other after the game is started, and having both disabled and turning them both on. all result in the same problem, it says its connected but by the time i get to multiplayer mode in the game the controller has either turned off, or its still on for a minute but it wont do anything then it will turn off. and once the controller is turned off its a whole mess. the only way i have figured out how to get it back connected is to remove it from the windows bluetooth devices and reinstall the whole process, all the while the first wiimote works fine. i have also tried uninstalling everything and switching wiimotes to see if it was the wiimote and its not, whichever is in the first slot works great, the second however just turns off and/or doesn't work maybe there is something i have to do not sure. all i know is im going crazy trying to figure it out lol. thanks for any advice/help

I did yes, and nothing happens, like under tools after i press alt+f6 it says its connected but it wont respond and the wiimote is turned off. and when i try and turn it on it just blinks and goes off.

Your bluetooth dongle works with one wiimote only. Maybe try getting hold of another dongle and testing that.

Well my computer has an internal one which is what i originally used and then i bought an adapter from amazon, the one on the "how to connect your wiimote" page on the dolphin site, the little black one. and same issue

- go in the bluetooth menu. Open "show bluetooth devices" Supress the Wiimote.
- Open the wiimote and remove the battery. place the battery back, then press the red button near the battery marked "sync" (the sync is longer than with 1+2)
- Open bluetooth menu; add device ; pair without code, the wait until installation is complete.
- Open Dolphin, Menu wiimote, refresh (it must vibrate); but now, it work if you open games.
If this doesn't work try another bluetooth stack (Bluesoleil etc...)

if you read my original post you would have seen that i have already done your suggestion post many many times...and it works...thats not my issue...my issue is the disconnecting and the lack of a second wiimote working.
Updated by hatarumoroboshi almost 14 years ago
It seems the same but maybe it's not...anyway I had once a problem with the second Wiimote not beiing detected in Dolphin (paired and everything, but buttons and sensor movement didn't work) and solved that way...

btw did you use ALT+F6 to activate the second controller?

Does this still happen for you with the newest revisions?
Updated by Gordon8452 almost 14 years ago
I can confirm this issue. It is still present with the latest versions. I know my dongle works fine with multiple wiimotes as other games work fine. When I start goldeneye, it physically shuts off all wiimotes except for wiimote 1. Using the alt-f5 through f8 keys has no effect. If i press the home screen while the game is up it shows that only wiimote 1 is connected. This is with todays revisions of 6723. It happens with an emulated wiimote in position 1 and a real wiimote in position 2 also. After the wiimote is shut off by the game pushing 1 & 2 simultaneously on the wiimote has no effect. Holding the power button does cause the wiimote to blink for pairing again.

Thank you Gordon. good to know its only Goldeneye didn't think to try anything else.

I think the problem is the wiimote pair up routine for windows. It doesn't work very well. Try pairing up the wiimotes with the pair up button. Then after windows tells you that the drivers are installed for all wiimotes, hit refresh. If the wiimote has gone off by that time then press 1+2 again. If the all leds are off on the wiimote then it isn't connected to windows.

They pair up fine. They show in the dialog fine. They play in several games fine. They show up in windows devices just fine. When I start goldeneye specifically, it shuts off all wiimotes except wiimote 1. LED's go blank. Pushing 1+2 has no effect. Only holding down the power button makes it bring up the pairing blinks.

This is probably caused by the game disconnecting any extra wiimotes.
i dont have goldeneye, but in DKCR any wiimotes after 1 are disconnected when the game starts and you cannot read until you choose to add player 2 or choose 2 player mode
i believe each wiimote will only connect once per run with the current implementation
try leaving wiimote 2 set to none when starting the game, get to multiplayer mode when it prompts to add wiimotes change to real wiimote and connect then
probably wont work, but let us know the results :)

That does indeed work, though it's a bit twitchy to get all the wiimotes working, I had to use the alt function shortcuts a few times before the game picked the wiimote up. Maybe this could be something to work on, that method of doing it seems kind of improper.

It does not reconect at all on various ways
"always talking about a REAL wiimote"
If you use a savestate when you load the state you will get a wiimote disconection (and it's impossible to reconect it)
If your wiimote gets desyncred from the bluetooth or you turn it off, even if you turn it on and sync it again with the bluetooth the wiimote will be not detected by the emulator (while in game)
if the mote is disconected by the game, it will not be possible to reconect it
To make it easier... if the wiimote gets disconected or the emulator gets desyncred for any reason... then the wiimote will not be abble to reconect
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut if your wiimote turns off then you can switching it to emulated wiimote and it will "reconect" but no, it does not work on the contrary way (so switching from emulated to real does not work)

Some days ago I've tried to disconnect the Wiimote in Windows, then re-pair it, reactivate in Dolphin (in the game Wii Sports) and it worked again...

hatarumoroboshi: cool find :) I'll have to try it out

I had the same issue, my 2 controllers would connect with windows but as soon as I played a game, the second one would drop its connection.
Tried doing this on different PC's, with different bluetooth stacks & with different versions of Dolphin. Finally decided to replace my (new) bluetooth dongle with an other one, and magic happened it worked within 2 minutes! :)
went from: http://www.msi.com/product/mm/Btoes-2-0-XMicro.html
to this one: Icidu Bluetooth Micro Dongle classII 2.0 (can't seem to find a proper page)
(both +- have the same specs)
good luck with it!

Issue 3989 has been merged into this issue.

Why did my issue (3989) has been merged to this one ???
It has nothing to do with my issue =/
Updated by gabrielmorano almost 14 years ago
ok Issue still remains on r6917
as soon as the wiimote gets disconnected it's IMPOSIBLE to reconect it
Updated by hatarumoroboshi almost 14 years ago
Well, eventually this issue should be renamed "Wiimote wont reconnect after being disconnected in Goldeneye" because in other games there are no problems (at least for me)...I don't have two Nunchuk so at the moment I can't test this game with two real Wiimotes, anyway did you try to set the second controller to "Emulated Wiimote" and see if it gets disconnected as well? (To me not)

I'm also having a simmilar issue when playing DK Returns. In mario kart, for example my wiimote never is disconnected, but in this game it happens many times making it almost unplayable. I only have one wiimote and i'm using latest build to date. I can't pair my wiimote cause Bluesoleil doesn't accept an empty code, so i must manually connect it every time.
Updated by hatarumoroboshi almost 13 years ago
Finally I could test this issue: effectively the second controller seems to get disconnected at start (I say seems because it gets disconnected by the game not by Windows), so when you start a multiplayer game (splitscreen) you can set every option needed with the first controller and then when you get to the character option selection you can still connect Wiimote 2 with Dolphin (ALT F6) and it will stay connected.
