Problem with missing letters solved. There is only issue with BackPatch.

I tested the game on Windows XP SP3 x32 on r6887 and I noticed that there is similar issue in the same place. When I want to check bookmark with map the game crashes in few different ways or game is running correctly (only one time for about 20 tests!).

  1. The game crashes with warning messages:

"DSI exception in stmw"

"DSI exception in lmw"

  1. Dolphin just stop with no reaction
  2. The game crashes with microsoft error message (on screen).

  • Status changed from New to Invalid

According to issue 4039, this game requires MMU speed hack enabled.

Actions #5

Updated by vasyl91 almost 14 years ago

The problem is still valid. I don't know, why you changed status to Invalid...

Actions #6

Updated by skidau almost 14 years ago

Is that your round-about way of saying that the game still crashes to desktop with MMU speed hack enabled in the game properties of this game?

Confirm this issue
And it seems it different for x32 and x64
x64 as it Said in Jit_BackPatch.cpp has BackPatch Crashes in both map cases
x32 works with little map well but has DSI exception in lmw/stmw with big map

Still an issue here, on 3/27/13

This is probably the most broken game I've managed to find on Dolphin. I'm amazed nobody has been willing to give fixing it a try.

Yeah. It's even more broken now. Used to be you could play as long as you didn't open the map ( which locked off quicktravel, but whatever. ). On anything above 3.5, it'll backpatch crash on level loads, so you can't even get to the armor.

It's just shoddy all around. If you go back to 3.0, you can play the game, but it runs ( almost unplayably ) poorly, you can't use the map, and if you need to use a bluetooth manager for Win8, you can't use a Wiimote. If you use 3.5 or higher, it'll run flawlessly in the castle, you just can't leave the starter zone without a crash.

This is still randomly occurring as of 4.0-399 re805bf60685b.

The map is working with old mmu-test branch

Actions #17

I don't know why am I still doing it, I played the game... Maybe just for the kick in the teeth. Anyway I tested the game on "dolphin-master-4.0-3514-x64" and the problem still occurs. This time after I had matched "MMU Speed Hack" in properties of the game I got the error "BackPatch: no register use entry for address 0000000010F147F8". What do you mean by "old mmu-test branch", is that a particular built or something? BTW, the best way to play this game is to get Wii console... dewelopers are not interested in fixing this issue.

MMU-Test branch is a set of builds to make the MMU more accurate. Instead of using MMU Speedhack, can you try the other MMU option (with MMU speedhack unchecked, since it overrides the other one) to see if maybe one of the new MMU adjustments fixed it?

Otherwise, I actually don't know where the MMU-test branch is myself. If that branch is what fixes this game, then we're dealing with a nasty problem of some sort, or, perhaps more devious, something unrelated with the JIT, perhaps?

Any link to this MMU-Test branch?

This should be fixed in the latest dev build.

Do you know what fixed it?

Actions #22

Updated by kostamarino about 10 years ago

One of the commits that fixes depth related issues which was merged, this issue was also solved in the old galop1's build.

Sorry, i had panic alerts disabled, my bad, it is not fixed.

Actions #24

Updated by JMC4789 about 10 years ago

Maybe he has some idea what commit fixed it?

Actions #25

Updated by kostamarino about 10 years ago

Well it does work fine on his build with no crashes or error messages popping up even with panic alerts enabled. Don't know how easy it would be to track down what caused it to work though.

kostamar could you please upload working build? It doesn't work for me at galop's build which I found nor latest builds from site. Thanks in advance!

The build i used compressed, run the DolphinLTCG.exe.

Hi, on latest builds form the site, location maps seem to work fine with panic alerts disabled while main map displays only, I mean interaction crashes the game.

Thank you for your upload, unfortunately this build doesn't work either. Accessing the map freezes the game instantly. Perhaps it's my bad. Anyway I cleared shader cache before each and every program start up and tried plenty of combinations with MMU. Don't know what goes wrong.

Actions #29

Sorry for the late reply but did you use d3d? The build i uploaded mainly touches d3d stuff.

Actions #30

I just checked this with my experimental branch to catch null pointer reads, and it turns out this game reads from a null pointer when you open the map. (Not sure how helpful that is on its own, but someone to watch for if someone wants to dig into this more.)

There are people who are saying that if you clock the CPU down that it no longer crashes...
