Description

Custom Projection Hack textboxes can be very usefull, but not enough. Pre-defined values (the old ones) are needed for the good of a friendly usability in dolphin emu.

How about we having both Custom Projection Hack textboxes option AND the old pre defined hacks in a pretty and user-friendly drop box, so both normal and advanced users can take benefit from the projection hacks without any penalty?

As ector/hrydgard said, 99% of users will have absolutely no clue what to type in the textboxes. But the advanced users probably will do (at least they will try to mess with it).

Y prefer the old pre defined hacks , they are a lot more easy to use!!!!

pepo, I'm sure you do prefer the predefined method, but that does not mean the rest of us have to lose a feature. Both ways can be added.

I prefer to have a thing more flexible instead than a few of choice inside a rigid drop box.
Users ask to add always a specifically hack for game because no one of the preset choices is appropriate for "the favorite game". Unofficial releases have other choices and people come here to ask another hack, because preset choices aren't good for all games... so we add an hack for zelda, an hack for donkey kong, other one for game X etc..
According to you this is the way to sully the sourcecode?
Dropbox loses its sense if we add other choices everytime

2nd thing more important. Guys... exists a game database.
Finding a right setting specifically for a game... people that manage this stuff can easly add these preset values inside game INI, so you have right values already preset.

I know that fields aren't so trendy in comparison to dropbox.
[/cut]

So you prefer to have predefined values (potentially wrong) for a X game?

But if you work jointly to database's people... according to you isn't a better solution to find appropriate settings and finally per game?

An other question, how much of previous preset choices are very useful for a group of games?

I've got half a mind.... next week I see to find a better way, anyway always outside sourcecode....

I think you missunderstood what I said. I'm not asking for adding every new hack as a pre defined option in drop boxes. I'm asking to just preserv the already known values (ztp, sonic, MetroidM, etc...) so people can simply choose that presets and get into the games that work with such projection hacks.

About the database's people, most people don't even know about the existence of such a thing. People just jump to google or dolphin's forums and asking what settings are better. Off course it's better to find the correct value for every game, but just dropping the old way and telling people they now have to input numbers in two clueless textboxes instead of having both the text and drop boxes to choose from, it's not pratical, at all.

Also, the INI database fails to show to the final user which settings are in use at the moment they load the game. People are used to the properties option, wich does not autofill the required fields for Custom Projection Hacks, at least at the moment.

Your commit are either incomplet (missing proper game INIs) or it doesn't work properly.

WoW, sorry for my msg post, but as you can see, you posted yours 4 minutes before me, while I was typing. Thanks for getting half a mind. Custom Projection Hacks are very usefull indeed, but not at the current form. Keep up the good work. :P

@rodiablo

missing INI? What game?

Previous INI with old projection hack were 15 only.

@gnick79

The Zelda INI doesn't fill the text boxes with proper values.

Are we talking about Zelda Wind Waker or is it Zelda TP?

Actions #14

Updated by rodiabloalmeida about 13 years ago

I remember that we had a Zelda WW hack, btw. That's what I'm talking about. Never knew about a Zelda TP Hack. And I don't have Zelda TP to test. But for Zelda WW, the INI certainly doesn't work (it doens't fill the text boxes with the proper values.

Also, the pre defined options are good to test games other than the games that the hacks were made for. Example: Resindet Evil Darkside Chronicles works better with the Bleach VS Crusade hack (wich you already got covered with the proper INI). But if one new game comes to works better with such hack enabled, how we are suposed to know the correct values of Bleach VS Crusade hack without looking at the properties of Bleach VS Crusade game or Resindet Evil Darkside Chronicles?

My point is: not everyone have these games to copy the values from. So pre defined values (with proper names) are needed becouse of this.

None. My Zelda Game ID is GZLE01. Zelda WW NTSC USA.

I can't get 200 games spending 6 months to find opportune settings game by game.
Old archive with Phack games (default with dolphin and before new hack implementation) was 15.
With your game ID, PH was disabled... ask yourself why.

Actions #19

Updated by rodiabloalmeida about 13 years ago

That's another very good reason to bring back the old pre defined values as an ready-for-use option, so you don't have to test 200 games in 6 months. And neither I. How people are suposed to know that a certain Game ID refers to a certain game (Zelda, in the case) that differs only in , well, nothing but Game ID?? Game ID by itself are not user friendly when it comes to know what certain game the Game ID refers to. I mean, it's not easy to discover which GAME ID is wich game just by looking at the Game ID INI file name, so we can copy the settings from. Sorry If I didn't make myself clear enough. :P

@rodiablo

You don't have answered!!!
I reply for you. If database was updated, now you have probably preset values for you favorite game.

Easy for you say this: "Your commit are either incomplet (missing proper game INIs) or it doesn't work properly." (completely inopportune and wrong)
Hard for me, instead, don't lose patience.

Anyway I said this "issue" has been accepted so far.

Actions #21

Updated by rodiabloalmeida about 13 years ago

Sorry to upset you. Not my intention. But I don't understand what exactly I didn't answered. And I don't understand why you'll be upset for a comment that states what I've already said: Some Game IDs represent the same games basicaly. And you said "If database was updated", wich is not the case (it hasn't).

Anyway, glad you accepted the issue. Sorry for any english mistakes. Not my native language.

Know that I really appreciate your work. I'm just trying to help.

I do not understand why it is so difficult to leave the both Custom Projection Hack textboxes option AND the old pre defined hacks!!!!!!!!!!!

Actions #23

Updated by hatarumoroboshi about 13 years ago

In my opinion it would be advisable to have in Game Properties an option to toggle between a basic setting with Pre-defined values (for human kind) and an Advanced setting with text boxes (for martian people);-)

@rodiablo
yes but each ID game has its own INI.
When you say that commit is incomplete you say a nonsense.
Commit is complete, it's the database not updated, so if you want to help, you can go here http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-cheats-database/ and ask for an update in order to your zelda in your country. Magically preset values appear in your favorite game.
I hope now it's clear.

If you're happy about changes introduced in r7025, maybe we can close this request.

Actions #25

Updated by rodiabloalmeida about 13 years ago

Even If i'm not happy, you can close this issue if you want. It's pretty clear that you are upset with my helpless comments and my nonsense talking. I said I'm sorry already. But it was in vain. Don't worry about me.

Anyway, thanks for your precious time, gnick. Thanks for the fix.

ps: Zelda is not my favorite game. I hate Zelda games more than anything else. Just mentioned Zelda for the only reason that there are many Zelda different game IDs and for the huge number of fans that it may have. That's all.
