Emulator Issues #4158
closedRestoring save state from previous version hangs Dolphin
0%
Description
What's the problem?
When attempting to load a save state saved by a previous version of Dolphin the application hangs. While hanging the title-bar flashes back and forth between "Decompressing State..." and "Loading state from [PATH_TO_SAVESTATE]". The only possible action from this state is to force-quit Dolphin.
Dolphin versions with the problem: r7224 - r7228 Perhaps further back.
I cannot say if version r7128 but that is the version the save states were created with.
Operating system and version: Windows 7
32-bit or 64-bit: 64-bit
Game ID (as it appears in game properties, Ex.: "GZ2P01" or "RSBE01"): Games tested:
GM8E01
GZLE01
Was the ISO a plain dump from disc, compressed and/or scrubbed?
Plain, both

Example save states are available but google limits attachments to 10 MB. Ask and ye shall receive.

This isn't a bug, this is just the way it works with emulation due to the nature of save states. Same thing happens with other emulators that support save states.
As stated several times and as a general rule of thumb, save states are not compatible between revisions, although in some cases you might get lucky. Changes to core, audio, video, input etc.. emulation will almost always if not always break save states between revisions.
Don't rely solely on save states and use the native ingame save feature unless you plan on sticking with the same revision for a while.

So I'm using the in game save function and upgraded my dolphin emulator, but the new emulator won't pull in my unlocked characters or progress. I've already dipped the folders over from the old version to the new. Thoughts?
