Which rev did these crashes start happening? What game are you trying?
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
I dont exactly know, I was using r7191 just fine... I already saw some people in the dolphin forums with the same problem with the latest revs.
Also, its not when starting a game, but when starting the program itself :P

Cannot reproduce this issue.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
That shouldnt make it invalid I suppose. We are using different Windows/computers, so the other people with the same problem must have something in common with me specs-wise or driver-wise.
Also, its strange since it didnt happent back in r7191, I know that's about 100 revs back...but still.

You haven't given us enough information to even begin to resolve this issue. For all we know, it might be a problem on your local machine (as it does not occur for everybody). Your report sounds more like a support ticket/helpdesk call and you should add to the thread that you read in the forum. The issue tracker is for logging verified bugs inside Dolphin.
Have you tried installing Dolphin into a new directory?
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
..."Enough information"... I pasted what the log said, gave my specs, explained the problem. I believe that was enough information. Im aware that this is an issue tracker, and that's why I reported the issue, I dont pretend to start a conversation here.
And yes, I ALWAYS extract new revs into different folders. I just extracted the current rev, tried to run the dolphin.exe and it crashes with the common "Has stopped working" message.
I dont really think that could be a local problem (As I said, I can run previous revs just fine), but I believe that may be something that SOME users may be missing (or that they have, for example X driver version for X thing).
I have the latest drivers for...everything I have, so that would be kinda rare.

Which rev did these crashes start happening? If we don't know this, it's a needle in a haystack situation.
Updated by Guile93 almost 14 years ago
A friend had same issue and asked my help.
I found this thread wich is not helping :p
So finally i figured out a way to prevent that crash, start dolphin.exe with compatibility mode for windws nt 4, only that method works.

- Status changed from Invalid to Questionable
- Relates to usability set to Yes
This issue seems to affect some people, but not everyone for some reason.
And seeing as it is only narrowed down to r7191-r7270 yet, tracking down the culprit revision(s) will probably take some time.
Either that, or posting a better backtrace of the crash (with symbols instead of random addresses) would help...
Updated by DimitriPilot3 almost 14 years ago
Anyway, try running (a build of) r7220 and (a build of) r7245, then tell us whether there's a crash that occurs during start-up or not.
The x86 builds of both revisions on the official website don't seem to be borked, by the way... (not talking about this issue but about another one)
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
Tried r7220, I asume that r7245 will give the same result:
Crashed, the exceptioninfo.txt gives:
Unhandled Exception
Code: 0xC0000005
Call stack info:
0x03C01001 : ?
Also, the crash says that Dolphin stopped working with this additional info (Sorry about the spanish stuff):

I'll try previous revisions, I'll post my results in a while.

r7212, crashed too.
I cant seem to find a compiled r7211 or r7210, but r7209 gives the same result.
r7199...crashed! Well, at least we got it on the r7191-r7199 range.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
r7195 works just fine. Cant seem to find a download for r7196,r7197 or r7198 though.
Updated by skidau almost 14 years ago
- Category set to ui
r7196 and r7197 were documentation changes so they cannot cause the crash.
r7198 was a commit that affected the UI, so that is likely the revision. Have you tried deleting all of the files in the User/Config directory?
r7199 might be the cause if you have SDL*.dll files in the path or in the directory where dolphin.exe is located.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
I deleted the files in the User/Config (As I said, I extract every revision to different folders so I can keep the revs separate) and it gives me the same crash.
About the SDL*.dll, well...there is SDL.dll and SDL.1.3.dll in the Dolphin root folder, but if Im not wrong, older revision also had the same dll's. And If Im not wrong, dolphin will not start if these arent present.
Updated by skidau almost 14 years ago
Try temporarily moving the SDL dll's somewhere else (Dolphin uses DirectInput now and not SDL). The SDL dll's shouldn't be needed anymore. Let us know if that fixes the issue.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
It says: "The program cant start because its missing SDL.dll in this system. Try to reinstall blah blah blah."
I think that Dolphin is still depending on these DLL.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
Also if this helps, I followed the thing that Guile93 said: "So finally i figured out a way to prevent that crash, start dolphin.exe with compatibility mode for windws nt 4, only that method works."
And yes. Strangely it works that way... But, you know, the issue still remains without that. And it kinda worries me :P

Do you have any gamepads in the Game Controllers control panel? If so, would you please try removing the gamepads and retrying?
Updated by DimitriPilot3 almost 14 years ago
Could you please give this build of r7198M (http://www.mediafire.com/?1k9g3uwd0yfmffs) a try? I have joined a .pdb file along with the executable. Hopefully it is enough for the back trace to be descriptive...
My local modifications shouldn't be relevant to this issue (which occurs during start-up).
Updated by DimitriPilot3 almost 14 years ago
To be clear, run this build and tell if it crashes on start-up. If it did, open the "exceptioninfo.txt" file and copy-paste its content here.
I wonder if adding that .pdb file next to the executable will/would do anything good... :P crossing fingers

Can you test something for me? Get a revision before 7198 and open the log window. Then check the "Word Wrap" option. Let me know if that crashes the application. If it does then 7198 is definitely the problem, and I have a fix. If not then the fix I have may still work. I will commit it soon, so test that for me too. I will let you know which revision it is.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
Skidau: Yes, I do have a gamepad. Let me try without it... Nope, same thing.
Dimitri: I ran your build... Crashed and gave me:
Unhandled Exception
Code: 0xC0000005
Call stack info:
0x07251001 : ?
glennricster: Oh! Yes, that crashed a previous revision, I tried with r7191 and got an instant-crash when trying to check word wrap in the log.
Updated by glennricster almost 14 years ago
Ok. I will commit a fix that will prevent the crash at start up. It won't fix the crash if you check the word wrap though. So don't do that.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
Don't tell me that word-wrap was checked by default in the latest revs and it was crashing the thing :P
Hahah. That's kinda lol. I'll gladly wait for the fix :) and we'll see if that works, at least I hope so.
Updated by alforata almost 14 years ago
Fixed by r7283, Please close the issue :)
Updated by skidau almost 14 years ago
- Status changed from Questionable to Fixed
Updated by glennricster almost 14 years ago
alforata: No, word wrap was not checked by default. It isn't the word wrap capability itself that was causing the issue. It is the way that the word wrap property is changed that is causing the issue. With the way it is set up now, if you have the word wrap property set it should not cause a crash. But if you change the word wrap property afterward it will still crash.
The reason I did not close the issue is because it technically is not fixed. It is just worked around. But since no devs can reproduce the issue it may as well be closed.

Updated by kinjal.dixit over 11 years ago
I was getting this same error, and then I saw that the game was NTSC. I unchecked the Use EuRGB60 Mode (PAL60) in the Wii tab of Dolphin Configuration and the game started.
Updated by rayjackson132 about 10 years ago
I had this problem on x64 version, then I downloaded the x86 and that's OK!
