Emulator Issues #4613
closedIPL(BIOS) Present and Enabled Renders Games "Unplayable"
0%
Description
What's the problem?
Not skipping the BIOS with IPL.BIN present makes a message appear upon loading a game: "The disc cannot be read."
Dolphin version with the problem (as it appears in the title bar, Ex.: "R
4779" or "R 6403M"):
All builds since at least r7000, but did not test anything before that.
(optional) Dolphin version that does not have the problem:
Cannot find a build that does not have the problem.
Operating system and version:
32-bit or 64-bit:
Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit.
Game ID (as it appears in game properties, Ex.: "GZ2P01" or "RSBE01"):
None, because the IPL is before the game.
Build command-line (not on Windows):
N/A
Was the ISO a plain dump from disc, compressed and/or scrubbed?
Both, but have not tested scrubbed. (Pretty confident it would produce the same result anyway, but I digress)
Please provide any additional information below.
This issue irks me because, not only did I find out about this recently, but there was a previous issue where HLE enabled made the IPL produce a buzz somewhere around r7200. But that isn't the problem. I tested that same build, and the issue was resolved, which makes me thing it's something with the Operating System and not Dolphin. I know one other person however that has this strange issue.

I can confirm the same issue happens on the most recent build.

That's strange, I'm not getting this problem. I can boot into SSBM no problem, whether I boot it by holding "A" and telling the IPL to boot the disk, or if I just let the cube roll around then it starts the game itself.
I can even confirm issue 3583 still exists.

Seems likely that the IPL region does not match the folder that you put it in (and the game you are trying to boot)

I do admit it's probably something I've done, but I think the real issue here is that it's not clear on how to properly install the IPL as the above inferred.

all you need to know is the region of the gamecube that you dumped your ipl from
folder is Sys/GC/
Updated by MofoMan2000 over 13 years ago
Make sure it's named "ipl.bin"
Mine's in sys/gc/USA I believe.

That's not what I meant. "The disc cannot be read" still appears. The IPL loads fine. But it cannot proceed into the game.

what region of gamecube did you dump the ipl from, what region is the game that you are trying to load
Updated by sonic21963 over 13 years ago
The IPL that I possess is USA, and the game that I have is also USA.

Works fine here with USA/USA. Check the IPL file hash, you probably have a bad dump.

The one I have has a CRC32 of 6D740AE7 and works perfectly (disregarding issue 3583, which I don't think is a problem with my IPL.bin).
Updated by sonic21963 over 13 years ago
The newer one with the same CRC32 6d740ae7 signature has the HLE buzz. I think there's just poor IPL version support if the other IPL gave me clear HLE audio, but this one gives the ear bleeding buzz I complained about earlier, even though it didn't matter that much. The issue's past closed unless you consider the poor IPL version support I just complained about. This issue can die now..

Dolphin should probably check the hash of the IPL, if it doesn't do that already. Other than that, yeah, invalid issue as LM1234 says.
