Description

  1. Game Name and ID

Skies of Arcadia: Legends (GEAE8P)

1) What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

When I attempt to launch the game from the directory, a window pops up with the title "Clearing code cache." Then a few moments later, the window closes. If I have DSP HLE selected, then the entire program crashes. If I select DSP LLE recompiler or interpreter selected, then I get the following error message:

Failed to load DSP ROM: /Users/richardbolinger/Library/Application Support/Dolphin/GC/dsp_rom.bin

This file is required to use DSP LLE.
It is not included with Dolphin as it contains copyrighted data.
Use DSPSpy to dump the file from your physical console.

You may use the DSP HLE engine which does not require ROM dumps.
(Choose it from the "Audio" tab of the configuration dialog.)

2) Did the game ever work correctly (i.e. not have this problem) on an
earlier version of dolphin?

I just installed Dolphin today, and this has never worked. The same error persists between both versions 3.0 and build 7670, currently running 3.0

3) What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Opening Dolphin
  2. Selecting Skies of Arcadia Legends
  3. Pressing Play

4) What version of dolphin are you using (32bit/64bit along with the
version as it appears in the title bar: "R 4779", "R 6403M", "3.0", etc)?

32-bit build 3.0 and build 7670.

On what operating system, drivers, and hardware? Be sure to list OS,
graphics driver information, and video card model if you are having
graphics problems, for example.

Macintosh OSX Leopard, 2.5 gigs of ram with a combined 12.22 ghz.

5) Please provide any additional information below.

I previously uploaded this issue along with a link to the site where I downloaded the .gcn file. Thus, the thread was summarily deleted for piracy. However, I physically own a copy of the game; I'm using a downloaded version because the CD drive of my current computer is nonfunctional. Below is a link to the evidence of my non-piracy.

I have also tried this with build 7372, and the problem persists.

I think you have a bad dump of the disc image because the game works here.

Actions #3

I'll look into getting a different disk image. If it turns out that it isn't the issue, what would the next step be?

Actions #4

There is no next step, you have a bad file.

I acquired a different disk image, and this problem persists. I even used a different extraction program than I normally use. I'll attempt to get a rip from the disk itself in order to create a baseline comparison.

Is there a possible alternate cause of this error that I can address in the meantime?

Try interpreter for powerpc and dsp hle.

I'm on an Intel-powered mac, not a PowerPC.

...try interpreter core.

The Gamecube/Wii is powerpc...

I'm going to have to show my noobishness and say, "How do I do that?"

Selecting the Interpreter option under the CPU emulator engine section and selecting the DSP LLE Interpreter option under the audio tab still leads to crashes. I'm assuming that's not the interpreter core you're referring to.

The interpreter option under the "CPU Emulator Engine" section is the interpretor core that Sonic and godisgovernment were referring to. However, godisgovernment told you to use DSP HLE not DSP LLE.

Well the idea was to not use any jits, so it sounds like he tried that. That was my only idea.

Well, LLE still gives the error I outlined in the original posting. And I have no clue how to use DSPSpy in the slightest.

Actions #14

Updated by Sonicadvance1 almost 13 years ago

LLE requires two files to run, don't use it without those files. DSPSpy isn't needed for you.

What CPU you have?

Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.1 ghz.

Going nowhere unless someone manages to reproduce it, which is apparently unlikely.

I realize I'm a little late to the party but i had the same issue and i fixed it by going to Dolphin/User and deleting the ShaderCache folder. Everything was fine after that but then it happened again and i fixed it the same way. I'm using Dolphin 3.0-153 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit.

I posted some links of my computer and dolphin screenshots.

I tried deleting the cache with the emulator and directly in cache folder. If you need additional information you can contact me at

I'm even willing to offer a teamviewer connection to a Dolphin developer.
