Description

1:
This issue persists for every game

2:
Although I am able to set up and test input configuration for both a GC pad and an emulated Wiimote, once a game starts running, the input does not work. This applies to using a keyboard and a gamepad.

3:
Early releases of dolphin 3.0 did not have this problem

4:
This happens every time I try to run a game

5:
Dolphin: 3.0-415 Mac OSX version: 10.6.7; Macbook Pro (late 2011 model).

Have you ticked Background input? Strange that such an obvious bug has not been reported before.

Actions #2

I reported some input bug too in issue 5142 about bluetooth being reset several times on game start. Maybe it's related but might not.

I have exactly the same bug: The input does not work. (Update yesterday to Mac OSX 10.7.3).
Set up and test input configuration for old wimote (no built-in motion plus) with bluetooth is without a problem.
But when I start a game, the input does not work!

I have this exact issue on Windows 7 64 bit, input works whilst in the config menu, but nothing in game.

I have exactly the same bug osx 10.7.3, dolphin 3.0-601

Actions #6

Updated by lpfaint99 almost 12 years ago

this may occur if you have used an earlier version of dolphin on the same osx system.
check config>gamecube and make sure the controller port is set to "standard controller"

Is this issue present in Dolphin 3.5?

Actions #11

Updated by lordfpx about 11 years ago

The bug is still present in Dolphin 3.5 :-(

Actions #12

Make sure the "Device" is set to one that starts with "Keyboard". I'm not sure why, but I get three that start with Input and one that starts with Keyboard and none of the Input ones work.

Update Dolphin 3.5-367
Now when i try to "refresh" my controller while the game is running Dolphin crashes. Controller still doesnt work ingame with any other configuration.

Actions #14

Updated by degasus almost 11 years ago

brownsenator: 3.5-367 is very old. Please use the official page for downloads: www.dolphin-emu.org

Actions #15

Updated by pauldacheez almost 11 years ago

FYI, newer builds require OS X 10.7 or 10.8, as Dolphin has started using OpenGL features that 10.6 doesn't support. Stick to 3.5-663 if you want to avoid the upgrade requirement. http://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/8767b30f75db5732023d9ebf9d93573f3b839e50/

Emulated Wii Controller "refresh" while Dolphin is actively running the game causes Dolphin to crash with the following Versions
3.5 stable - x64
3.5 stable - x86
3.5-1340 - x64
3.5-1340 - x86

game: Castlevania Judgment
Using xbox360 controller profile (file attached)

Having exact same issue as described above: checked that it is set to 'standard controller'; when configuring on GCpad it responds and is recognised as "Input/0/Twin USB Joystick"; when launching a game it doesn't respond.
Im running on OSX 10.8.3 and dolphin 3.5-367, and using 'PS2 dual-shock controller' with 'TRIXES 2 Port PS2 adaptor'. any updates in the development versions???

You mentioned 3.5-367 which is only really available on a site that we do not run...

Have you now been informed our website is actually http://dolphin-emu.org ???

When you visit: https://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/
We have it at the top about how we have a new website, how can we make this easier for users like yourself so they know in future?

Once again, as stated many times above.... I am also having a major issue with getting the game to respond to anything. Dolphin recognizes my 360 controller and the controls have been configured, but when the game loads nothing works. This is not a problem for Windows. In the near future I wish this can be resolved.

i am currently using the 3.5 version of Dolphin and Mac OS 10.8.4

Thanks

Actions #23

Please try a later version of Dolphin.

You can find them here:

Actions #24

Updated by TheJabberwakkee almost 11 years ago

Ok, I tried both the 3.0 and 3.5 versions of Dolphin. Still no luck... Like I said before, Dolphin does recognize the keyboard and the controller, but it ceases to function when a game is opened. Game works just fine on it.... its just there's no way to control the game itself. When the "press any button" screen appears(gamecube), there isn't any way of getting past that until it times out and continues, and it goes to the game's start screen. If anyone has time please look into this problem... I have looked at and considered past comments and have tried them.

Thanks

TheJabberwakkee, are you playing in fullscreen mode or windowed mode or does neither mode work?

You have enabled the "Background input" option and have checked that Options > Configure > GameCube > Port 1 is set to Standard Controller? Are you playing a GameCube game (not a Wii game)?

My port 1 is already set to standard controller and the issues still persist: latest version of dolphin, keyboard controls work, and when i use a plugin it's recognised (i can even assign buttons), but it fails to work in game, any ideas?

Actions #33

Updated by random90s almost 11 years ago

Port 1 set to "Standard Controller" with "Background Input" checked. Dolphin 3.5-1668 on Mac OSX 10.8.4. Windowed or fullscreen mode; no dice.

Actions #34

Updated by skidau almost 11 years ago

random90s, press the Default button in the GCPad settings and reconfigure your controls again. That'll fix it.

Actions #35

Updated by random90s almost 11 years ago

Tried that and I can move in-game now but the controls are messed up. Right analog stick's left-right only respond when the left's left-right is used. I reset the thing and now the right stick works right but the left stick is messing with the D pad. Maybe it's a problem with my gamepad but I've never had problems with it in ePSXe and PCSX2 (still don't).

Actions #36

Same thing for me. Tried everything but nothing works, Dolphin recognizes the controller, but in-game's just messing around with my mouse and keyboard and doesn't recognize the controller.

ok, so i think this is the first time i've been able to post a fix i worked out myself! on anything... so proud of myself.

I was having these issues, and through a desperate need to play super mario sunshine i found a fix. (on a macbook at least)

  1. Clear all the settings
  2. In the gamepad setup, select the device as "Keyboard/0/......"
  3. For each key, instead of using the auto detect (which won't work as you have keybpard selected as input) - right click on the button you want to define, choose input/0/USB Joystick (or whatever your gamepad is) as the device in the configure control popup
  4. find the value you want to set it to... remember to press select before pressing ok (i forgot this so many times and it drove me crazy)
  5. start game and enjoy...

a note - i found it way easier to use the auto-detect, save those settings, then flick between them and the new one i was setting up. It still took a bit of time, but well worth it for that sweet mario goodness :)

@controlpluszed - please could you or someone post slightly clearer explanation - i've tried following your instructions but don't really understand them. I'm having the exact same problem as everyone else on here… Dolphin will register the gamepad when mapping keys, but it doesn't work in game. Then when you return to the gamecube controller settings you have to remap them all again!

I have done almost everything and it is still not working correctly.

I make sure that it says keyboard and all the settings, nothing works. I was able to make it work sometimes by clicking it over and over and sometimes it plays.

It might be something that I'm missing but I am making sure that I click okay and everything and its not working on my mac.

Hi friends,

Finally able to crack it down.
We are changing the config settings outside. But there is one Wiimote settings also. I guess its for Wii games. Anyways, so we have to set the settings there and not GCPAD.

Steps:
Click on Wiimote button
Wiinote 1 -> Emulated Wiinote from dropdown. Then select Configure.
You see here its default selected to Keyboard/Mouse.
Now refresh if required and select your controller.
Things will look familiar now.
Set the buttons with your controller.
I would say atleast only those which were already set as default.
eg: I set all in Buttons, first 4 in IR, left/right in Tilt, same button for Shake X/Y/Z, and all 4 in D-pad.
SNAPSHOT attached.

I guess similar for player 2 and so on.

Cheers. :-)

ok with the help of above I finally got my controller #1 working great.
it's a generic ps2 wireless through a usb adapter that has 2 ports.
I cannot get the 2nd working. it can read it set to joystick,,,
but cannot get the trigger lights to read it below like on #1.
I tried messing around with the .ini to set device 2 to 7 since #1 was 6. nope.
then 8/ 10 / 12/ nope…
would be awesome to play 2 player.
any help?
maybe I need to get a wired controller?
but it sees the controller presses??? I think it's the ID # but I have no idea????

MAC / version 3.5 - since all 4.0.x cannot load backend still. any word on this?

I miss my gamecube.
I'll probably buy one.

Same or similar issue, steps above did not work. OSX 10.9.4.

Keyboard and Gamecube controller both work every other time or not at all when restarting the game.

Actions #49

Updated by nononononono over 9 years ago

Bizarrely, I can switch ports on my USB adapter (there are two) and that seems to work. It's almost like the "Input/1/USB GamePad" and "Input/0/USB GamePad" swtich randomly when the game starts. As I said, there was a similar issue with the keyboard.
