Emulator Issues #5387
closedMLB Power Pros 2008 - NTSC - (RL8E54) - Game banner not saved for some reason
0%
Description
- Game Name and ID (as it appears in right click > properties: "GZ2P01",
"RSBE01", etc):
RL8E54 - Wii, MLB Power Pros 2008 - NTSC.
2) What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Game banner is supposed to display after a Wii game is loaded and a save is made.
3) Did the game ever work correctly (i.e. not have this problem) on an
earlier version of dolphin? Please specify the exact revision when the
problem began.
Never worked.
4) What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Run the game.
- The game will access the Wii memory in the first few seconds.
- After stopping emulation and refreshing the GUI, the game banner still does not appear. Even saving after a full game is played the banner will not show up.
5) What version of dolphin are you using (32bit/64bit along with the
version as it appears in the title bar, etc)? Do not say 'latest version'
this changes multiple times a day.
On what operating system, drivers, and hardware? Be sure to list OS,
graphics driver information, and video card model if you are having
graphics problems, for example.
Dolphin 3.0-600 (8878ae5fc379)
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit - SP1
CPU: AMD A6-3400M, Quad-Core, 2.4GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD6650, 1GB GDDR3
RAM: 4GB DDR3

does banner.bin exist in the game's save directory?
if not, can you provide a data.bin exported from a wii for this game? (assuming that it is not copy protected)
Updated by tommyhl2.SS about 13 years ago
The banner.bin is created for the game, but the file size is 0.

does same issue exist with 3.0 and r0ed8af2287bdca2a7cf1ff1ec57781d45d852551 ?
can you run a debugfast/debug build with loglevel info, and only the log type Wii IPC FileIO, during the initial creation of the save file
Updated by tommyhl2.SS about 13 years ago
The issue happens with all builds, including those two. If you'd be able to provide the debug build, then I could check logs.

sorry about the host, if you can recommend an easier one that doesn't require an account to upload, i'll re upload it.

please make sure to get the log for the first time that it create the banner file, I doubt that it tries to fix the banner every time it saves the game

Has this issue changed after r9cbfddd7883b5b69ac741cc3c5a49a735ff8ea67 ?
Updated by Billiard26 about 12 years ago
- Status changed from Questionable to Won't fix
It's possible this game simply does not have a banner.
I will re-open the issue if someone can confirm the banner actually shows up for the save of this game on a real Wii.

Update: For some reason the banner is generated as an empty file. Unknown as to why yet.

- Milestone set to Current
I'm not actively working on this at the moment, so if anyone wants to try to fix this issue, feel free (just be sure to update the tracker to avoid duplicating work).
Marking as milestone current because this seems to be a timing issue that could be pretty nasty in other situations.

- Status changed from Accepted to Work started
- Priority changed from High to Normal
I've started modifying the FS code to fix metadata and timing bugs. (https://dolp.in/pr6421 is the first step)
Setting priority down to Normal because we haven't had any other similar issues, so the timing issue probably only affects this particular game.
