Description

Game: RFEP01 (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn [PAL])

After a while (random, typically an hour or so) the sound starts glitching, it blares static noise. By lucky chance, it happened during a narrated segment once and I realised that Dolphin was playing the audio track multiple times simultaneously, slightly out of sync with each other, so the static is caused by over-saturation. (i.e. instead of the sequence of sound "A. B. C." it was "A-A-B-A-B-C-B-C-C").

This is with the LLE-Recompiler DSP using XAudio2/DirectSound [both do it] on Windows 7 x64, x64 Dolphin build. The problem has existed for a while, it didn't start on any particular revision that I know of.

[I use DSP on a Thread but turning that off just drops the frame-rate a bit and it still happens anyway]

You can fix the problem temporarily by creating a save-state then stopping emulation and starting it again, reload the save-state and the problem is gone. (Loading the save-state without stopping emulation doesn't help, loading a save-state from before the problem started doesn't stop it either). It will also generally go away on its own if you persevere for 10-20 minutes.

Relevant Hardware:
Intel i7-920 @Stock (2.66GHz)
Creative Audigy 4

Does the problem still occur with LLE interpreter?

Actions #2

Yes and no. It's difficult to tell since the interpreter lags so much which causes pops and gaps every so often. I did notice a short burst of static that sounded like the same thing but it only lasted for a few seconds rather than minutes.

Would you please create a save state just before the issue occurs? Preferably with lle interpreter but if that is too difficult, lle recompiler will do. Also let us know which version you create the state with.

Save-state: http://www.filefactory.com/file/mlgiowx95kb/n/RFEP01_7z

Dolphin 3.0-682-dirty (x64)
DSP Interpreter, XAudio2 (DSP on Thread disabled)

I captured a save-state right after it started again. I'm not sure that this will help though, like I said, save-states don't seem to capture it. [Problem starts. Create Save State. Exit Dolphin. Start Dolphin. Start Game. Load Save State. Problem is gone]

I can confirm this happens with Wind Waker, Baten Kaitos, Kirby Return to DreamLand and Resident Evil 4. I always use LLE without "LLE on thread". I get this issue all the way back to 3.0 and it only occurs during extended playing times (1+ hours)

skid commited a few DSP fixes recently, could someone test if this issue still happens?

There was a big thing about this issue. It was fixed a while ago and I just missed it. I don't remember exactly what build fixed it, but it happened on New AX-HLE and LLE.
