Description

(FeatureRequest)
r2075 introduced the possibility to choose arbitrary files as MemoryCard,
rather than relying on the fixed paths for User/GC/Region/MemCardA.raw etc.
Also, the region was moved into the filename rather than using a folder.

I was wondering if it you were willing to further improve this feature, by
letting the user choose and override this setting on a per-game basis, to
allow easier management for those who like to backup their savegames on a
regular basis (prior to trying a new revision, or whatever reason) and tend
to be puzzled with what file to backup.

Ex.: The user decides to override the default setting of
C:\Users\Jack\Dolphin\saves\MemCardA.raw for Zelda:TWW and Zelda:TP to use
C:\Users\Jack\Dolphin\saves\Zelda.raw.
Zelda.raw will not receive the Region suffix and will be used as it is if
either of the games boot. For all other games with no explicit setting,
MemCardA.Region.raw will be used (the default).

it was declared useless when I suggested it few weeks ago:)
maybe if more users vote for it other devs will change their mind:)

I see one reason to create one file by game, it would be 'easier' saves management
between revs, ex: you're playing ssbm on r123, and ztp on r124, then you want to
switch to r125, you just have to paste both files without having to switch savegames
using the memcard manager (which would become pointless if this is implemented)

but is it really needed ?
I mean, there's already a nice and fully working memcard manager now that let you
move savegames between files if you happen to need it and everything is automatically
saved into one memcard by region which is what you need to backup.
So, at least for backing up games, this couldn't be any simpler ;
Correct me if i don't get it though

so how is exporting a save with the memcard manager difficult? The manager is robust
and works well. This idea, on the other hand, is just file spam and oodles of wasted
space.
I say a BIG NAY, but of course if someone else does it and allows the option for it
to stay as it is, it doesn't matter to me

I agree with godisgovernment.

One thought I had similar to this would be to on gamelaunch

  1. Search for .gci file (gamecode+filename.gci) in a specified folder

a. If not found check for existing save on the memcard. If no save is found start
game, create a new save using the game
b. If found check memcard for existing save on memcard if found export existing
save as backup file and delete save.

  1. Take gci file and save as a backup, import save to the memcard.

  2. On stop export save as gci file, maybe delete save from memcard

which leaves you with the current save and the previous save(s).
