Description

  1. Game Name and ID: Killer7 Pal, GK7P08

2) What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

It should continue running virtually forever, instead it freezes in random intervals. Sometimes I can hear that it will freeze soon (the sound does strange things like distorted background sounds or constantly looping sounds that have already ended)

And just at the moment of the freeze, I see this in the log:

Src/HW/EXI_DeviceIPL.cpp:297 N[OSREPORT]: assertion "pstream->bufTableHeadIx == a" falied in "synth.c" on line 3531.

After this theres lots of addresses which seem to be a "Back Chain". I don't know if that would help, though.

But I must say, over the time I am actually playing I see quite a lot of "DVDOPEN(): File '/Yam/effect/easyAnim/......' was not found under /" with different files in different folders everytime (and only on loading screens)

In this case, might it actually be that I fouled up reading the ISO from the GC disc? The game works otherwise and the freezes are random. There's no definitive point where it ALWAYS stops working.

3) Did the game ever work correctly (i.e. not have this problem) on an
earlier version of dolphin? Please specify the exact revision when the
problem began.

4) What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.
2.
3.

5) What version of dolphin are you using (32bit/64bit along with the
version as it appears in the title bar, etc)? Do not say 'latest version'
this changes multiple times a day.
On what operating system, drivers, and hardware? Be sure to list OS,
graphics driver information, and video card model if you are having
graphics problems, for example.

6) Please provide any additional information below.

7) Attachments. IMPORTANT! We have a limited storage quota on
GoogleCode, so please use a 3rd party host for screenshots or any other
files (http://min.us/ for example).

Sorry, I was stupid and wrongly hit the submit button too early.

  1. I don't know, but it seems to be a non issue at least at r7671 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYJv3BhPXG0 )

  2. Just playing the game normally, freezes in a random timespan (will continue playing audio though, I forgot that, sorry. It will not play long though and loop all over after 5 seconds of audio)

  3. 3.0-843-dirty, 64bit

Further testing concluded that it works with LLE (so far), but LLE (on my pc, at least) introduces some good lag into the game

Unsurprising, considering that LLE's accurate but uses a massive amount of CPU.

Can you try a new-ax-hle build? If that fixes it, this issue'll be irrelevant since new-ax-hle will inevitably be merged in some time in the near-to-medium future. http://dolphin-emu.org/download/branches/

I will try that and post back, thank you. If it does fix it this issue can be called resolved and will be fixed in the main build as soon as new-ax-hle gets merged into the trunk, right?

Yup, pretty much.

It actually still freezes, but it takes a much longer time to do so. Still I didn't have enough time to get to the next save point. I started this session at 21:14, so it ran about 20 minutes up until 41:25.

I also found a solution for the aiming problem that has been surrounding Killer7 for a while now. It's the one where the characters never aim where your reticule are. For example, you try to shoot into the head and suddenly a leg gets shot off. This problem is for some reason completely solved if you use OpenGL as your renderer in Dolphin... Doesnt have to do much with this issue, but still funny.

I also might be able to test this on a different PC today. That PC is much faster CPU-Wise (i5 2500k) than this laptop here (Alienware M11x, i5 U520)

Well dang, I could play further, but http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/issues/detail?id=5415 Issue 5415 bit me. Can't continue anyway then!

Someone there said that it was actually fixed at some point, but nobody ever pointed out when.

Okay, skipping warnings will make it continue at the first level boss, although with VERY low fps (about 3, didn't have the counter on). After the feathers disappear it will continue running fast again.

I paused the game once and after about 15 mins it froze... The new-ax-hle build will just delay it further, nothing else.

Changing to a faster PC didn't solve the problem, only prolong until it happens.
So as far as my research can go, the problem exists.

This one is more like Issue 5415

OpenAL backend may also help with the "synth.c" problem. I agree that this is now a related/duplicate of issue 5415 as using LLE/new-ax-hle allowed sinni800 to get to that point.

I do not agree that it is a duplicate of issue 5415. I don't even think it is related. Issue 5415 seems to have to do with the feathers that occupy the graphics subsystem and my issue (synth.c) is more likely to be related to sound, then.

The only thing connecting my issue to issue 5415 is the fact that I encountered 5415 while trying to get to the bottom of my issue.

Also I got past the first level and even the second level by saving frequently. The third level has given me headaches though, I haven't been able to save in time before it freezes since there's no readily available save point at the beginning.

I know I also described the reticule problem which is unrelated to this issue as far as I can see since it can be fixed by going OpenGL. The sound problem exists without a relation to these settings.

I also have one more thing I would like to share: The crashing problem outlined in this issue has, I think, the tendency to occur more often if the game is not running at 100 % speed.

The sound also tends to get jagged sometimes which foreshadows the imminent crash.

Also another odd thing I noticed: Saving the game to a state and reloading the emulator will not help prolonging the time until the crash occurs.

I too have this issue and have noticed that alt-tabbing intensifies the frequency of the issue. THIS IS NOT A DUPLICATE OF ISSUE 5415. I believe sinni's comment about the game locking up more frequently if not running at 100% is completely accurate. I am unable to get past the first level without it locking up, save states have no effect on when it freezes.
