Description

Game Name?

Tales of Symphonia - Gamecube

What went wrong?

It seems some notes are missing in music tracks, most noticable in first village in the game, Iselia.

Raw audio data seems to be correct, because file which dolphin dumps if "dump audio" is used, when converted to another formats, sounds exactly as it should.

However, when playing in Dolphin, music doesn't sound correct.

Here is the same file, first uploaded to soundcloud.com which converted it, and it sounds correctly
https://soundcloud.com/rpglord/audiodump-tos

Here is untouched file wav file, it's the same file as the one I uploaded to soundclod.com, but it sounds differently, it has some missing notes.
This is exactly how music track sounds when game is played in Dolphin.

Here is youtube video of game's OST, and it can be seen that converted soundcloud.com file sounds more accurate:

The old HLE code from 3.0-842 uses a different audio mixing path compared to new HLE or LLE (goes through HLEMixer which new HLE bypasses by writing samples to RAM... like it should :<). Makes sense that it would be a mixer issue if it impacts both new HLE and LLE but not old HLE.

delroth, I am pretty sure 3.0-842 was from your new ax hle brench :)
Maybe you didn't impement writing samples to RAM yet back then ???

Oh, I thought you were talking about a 3.0-842 version from master (these "short" versions are meaningless, there can be several commits from different branches mapping to the same version number).

If you could find the first commit that introduces this bug, it would be very helpful.

Ok, I will do it now :)
But important to note that NONE version from master ever worked, even the versions before 3.0-842.

It only worked correctly for few versions while you were still working on new ax hle.

I will find exact versions when it started and stopped working

Ok, it worked correctly since the begining of your new hle brench, and it stopped working in 3.0-844 revision:

"Fix samples clamping and interlacing in the OUTPUT command. Shouldn't have assumed previous AX HLE was doing something right"

Maybe old HLE was doing something right afterall :)

It does not seem this is mixer bug, more likely a bug which has been present for ever in LLE and is also now present in new HLE as well...

That's very weird: all that commit does is reverse the L/R audio channels.

I'm thinking there is an issue in your audio setup where your left or right audio channel is wrong.

That could also explain why you can't hear the issue on soundcloud: it might not output the audio in stereo mode.

But why would it metter ? I am not hearing notes, I am not paying attention to from which speaker sounds are coming...
I will try with headphones in case something is wrong with my speakers and report back..but did you try to listen to files I uploaded, do you hear any differences in them ?
I played .wav file in Windows Media Player

  • Status changed from Accepted to Questionable

Can't hear any difference, and 3 other people on IRC have listened and can't hear a difference either (JC47, Sonic1, Garteal).

I really think this comes from your audio setup (either speakers/headset or windows audio configuration).

LOL you are right, I feel like a fool now, something is wrong with my speakers and I was not even aware of it !
Tried with headphones and it is working as it should now.
Sorry for wasting your time, you can close this issue :)
