Description

Game Name?
Punch Out

Game ID?
R7PE01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
Game loads to black screen with no sound, nothing happens.

What did you expect to happen instead?
To be able to play the game.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Start the game up.
  2. If "Use EuRGB60 (PAL60) mode" is checked, game will load to black screen, and sit until emulation is interrupted.
  3. If above option is unchecked, Dolphin will crash immediately upon loading the game.

Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4.0-1214

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
Never used it on an older version.

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
CPU: Intel i7-3770 @ 3.4GHz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (4x8GB) @ 1333MHz
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
GPU: Geoforce GTX 680 2GB VRAM

Are you using the 32 or the 64 bit version of Dolphin?
64-bit

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
Checked the integrity of the disk, and no errors were found. Using a real Wiimote connected via bluetooth.

What version of the NVIDIA drivers are you using? the latest versions have an issue with the option "ignore format changes" being unchecked; could you make sure you're not running into that issue?

Thank you for your report; I hope this helps. If not, hopefully someone with Punchout!!! will show up to help.

I'm using v335.23 of the nVidia drivers.

I can confirm the Euro60 option black screen, but i have no boot issue with my ntsc copy.

Just tried it again with ver. 4.0-1242, and I get the same crashes.

Same thing if you do a crystal clean install/pure defaults? Download, unzip to a folder on your desktop, run dolphin, open game.

Anything in the logger?

Still crashes even with a fresh install. Whenever it crashes, it writes this to "exceptioninfo.txt";

Unhandled Exception
Code: 0xC0000005
Call stack info:
0x697165A4 : ?

Does that help at all?

I'll confirm later with my ntsc version when I get home. Either this has been broken (in which case you'll need to find the build that broke it) or your copy of game is just bad.

All builds here: https://dolphin-emu.org/download/

My copy boots fine on 4.0-1202.

Just tried it with 4.0-1202, and it still crashes. I think my copy might be bad.

I can add a little to this discussion:

Using Dolhpin x64-1123, Punch Out!! (R7PE01) & Doc Louis's Punch Out!! (WPCE01) crash when loading using the OGL graphics plugin. Both work fine using D3D instead. I'm using the same settings for both, so I doubt its a settings problem (though I could play some more if needed)

Config is close to the OP's: i7-2600k, NVIDIA 770 GTX. NVIDIA driver 334.89.

exceptioninfo.txt (R7PE01)
Unhandled Exception
Code: 0xC0000005
Call stack info:
0x6F4AE7E4 : ?

exceptioninfo.txt (WPCE01)
Unhandled Exception
Code: 0xC0000005
Call stack info:
0x6F4AE7E4 : ?

"Use EuRGB60 (PAL60) mode" has no effect (and shouldn't given a NTSC image). Neither does the "ignore format changes" checkbox.

Might be separate issue, might not. Maybe the OP could try the other graphics plugin or the SW renderer and see if the game loads?

Try clearing the contents of the ShaderCache folder under the Documents/Dolphin Emulator folder.

Both Punch Out!! (R7PE01) & Doc Louis's Punch Out!! (WPCE01) work for me using Dolphin 4.0-1192 OGL under Windows x64. I have an AMD R9 290 and i7-4770K.

No difference here after clearing out the ShaderCache folder. The cache file does get created before Dolphin crashs, but deleting it has no effect. NVIDIA specific issue maybe?

Also tried x64-1281; same crash, same exception. DX still works fine, OGL still broken.

please downgrade to the 332 NVIDIA driver release. The 335 ones are I known to cause crashes. I would like to know if Punchout!! is one of the affected games.

  • Status changed from New to Questionable

Can we get a confirm on this? There was a nvidia driver issue afflicting users that should be fixed in the latest beta driver.

you need to disable "Use EuRGB60 Model (PAL60)" in order for the game to boot. This setting is found under Options - Configure - Wii.

yeah, we understand that now; and there is an issue about that.
