Description

Game Name?

All but Super Smash Bros Melee

Game ID?

GALE01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

Using Dolphin x64 in Windows 7 there is input lag unless you disable the 'Desktop Window Manager Session Manager' service. Generally it does not take affect when a program goes fullscreen, but it does not with dolphin.

What did you expect to happen instead?

Input lag free on my RL2455HM

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]

  1. Use openGL (not sure if direct3d is the same) with Windows 7 (Aero Enabled, not sure if disabled changes but if disabling Aero fixes this issue please add an option do disable on boot with dolphin)
  2. Boot melee
  3. Feels jank when you do anything

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?

Dolphin 4.0.2

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?

No

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)

i7 860
GTX 460
8GB Ram
10000 RPM Velociraptor

Are you using the 32 or the 64 bit version of Dolphin?

64 bit

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
[Upload big files to a hosting service and post links here!]

Disabling windows aero may help because i've heard the service is related to windows aero but if this is the case please include an option to disable aero on dolphin boot.

First part may not have been clear, All games but I can feel it the most with Melee

This really isn't the responsibility of the emulator. I haven't really noticed this in Dolphin, but I have noticed it in other games/emulators.

Could we get a graphics guru to comment?

Not a guru by any means, but isn't this more graphical lag than input lag?

This issue would be solved by adding exclusive fullscreen support, I'm currently working on it.

Please test this build which includes exclusive fullscreen support: https://dl.dolphin-emu.org/prs/pr-506-dolphin-latest-x64.7z

Keeping "Render to Main Window" disabled in the graphics options is required for it to work in this build.

Thank you!!

I could instantly feel the difference.

Maybe its my mayflash adapter I use but it still doesn't feel exactly the same as it does on a Wii/Gamecube but I doubt its related to this issue. It feels so close though, for an emulator that is amazing!

I'd also like to note that switching to windows basic fixed stuttering I was experience (FPS Reported 60 the whole time) with both builds. It is known that aero takes more processing power but wow what a difference. Input lag was fixed in both scenarios with the build you created.

If this fixes it for you in this scenario, then I'll accept it so it can be closed when the PR is merged.

Yup it's great, excited for it to be merged.

Any concerns with 'Keeping "Render to Main Window" disabled in the graphics options is required for it to work in this build.'

The newer versions of it should work again. It'll be fixed before going into master.

"Render to Main Window" will need to stay disabled for now, hopefully this will be fixed in future versions. We're very close to merging it, the code is finally done and we'll be doing some testing soon.

We're currently undergoing testing of this feature on the forums, please try it out and provide feedback: https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-exclusive-fullscreen-mode-and-3d-vision-testing-needed
