Description

Game Name?

Hydroventure (PAL version of "Fluidity")

Game ID?

WFLP01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

The aspect ratio of the game does not seem right. It is vertically compressed. This is also visible by the black borders: the bottom one is larger than the top one.
See this screenshot: http://imgur.com/OWpwtWp,CjBiYL6#0

What did you expect to happen instead?

The NTSC-version of the game (different name "Fluidity" - same game) does not have this problem (see this screenshot: http://imgur.com/OWpwtWp,CjBiYL6#1) Imho the aspect ratio of Hydroventure should look the same as Fluidity.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

You can see the problem immediately after starting the game.

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?

Latest development version, as well as current stable.

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?

I've tried many versions in the past. I didn't encounter one, where this was not happening.

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)

Windows 7 x64, i5-2500k, nvidia GTX460

Are you using the 32 or the 64 bit version of Dolphin?

64 bit

Wow, looks like the black bar in prime. In prime it's NTSC only. Let's see what skid thinks. And please provide fullscreen screenshots so we can see what it does without any borders.

Also, please remember to state the versions you are using in the issue report.

sure, here are the fullscreen-screenshots:
hydroventure (PAL): http://imgur.com/UHZmGP9,FkMpSzY#1
fluidity (NTSC): http://imgur.com/UHZmGP9,FkMpSzY#0

i'm using 4.0-1767.

one thing to add: the problem also exists during the standard white startup-warning-screen and even when accessing the home-menu.

Issues like weird aspect ratios are sometimes caused by XFB issues; have you tried with Real XFB?

Have you tried this with single core? Does it still occur?

switching to single core does not solve the problem.

neither does Real XFB, but having it turned on makes it a little better, but still does not fully solve the problem.

this image has Real XFB turned on:

and for comparison here with Real XFB turned off:

My guess would have been Real XFB or VI. If I recall, some parts of Dolphin might be using NTSC values on PAL games. I doubt it is FIFO related.

Does this only happen in the menu? The actual game engine is custom, while the menus are just a Scaleform display.

It happens all throughout the game. That includes even the standard-Wii-white-warning-screen coming up immediately after launch and the Wii-Home-Menu (that comes up when pressing the Home-Button).

Can you try turning on RealXFB in OpenGL of the latest development builds?

i've just tried 4.0-3367, but unfortunately the situation is still unchanged. just like in my test in june 2014, RealXFB improves the situation a bit - resulting in the black-bar to be a bit narrower. but it does not solve the problem.

i just found out, that this issue seems to have been fixed a while ago - but only with PAL60 mode enabled. this is the case with all current development-versions and as far back as at least 4.0-6734. at version 4.0-3367 the problem also occured with PAL60 enabled. so the change of behaviour must have been somewhere between these versions. sorry, but i don't know the exact commit, the behaviour has changed.

but as mentioned, currently the issue still exists, if PAL60 is disabled.
