Description

Currently the various choices about the texcache can be confusing, while the difference speed-wise is only significant between the normal and the safe option, the fast option is equally or minimally faster than the normal option in most cases (I measured a 0 up to 2% difference in worst case scenario). Having therefore just two options, a safe and a fast setting would make things more simple. Keeping the normal option and renaming it to fast makes sense since it fixes a lot of games with minimal to nonexistent speed hit compared to the fast option. The only downside i can think right now is that some hi definition texture packs depend on the fast option to work properly currently.

  • Issue type changed from Bug to Other

As someone who has played the Last Story, I disagree. Even on normal there's a hit. Fastest was already removed, and it was the glitchy and horrible one. I think that this is a situation we already did and that's it. The thing to do from here is to remove the options and run safe all the time, and computers aren't fast enough for that yet.

And the vast majority of HD texture packs use fast. Whatever the decision on this, that weirdness would need to be fixed before fast could be removed. It's bad enough the removal of fastest killed a lot of old texture packs as it is.

It could be removed from the gui and the gameini database while keeping it as a gameini option in case someone wants to use it with a high def pack? Btw i tried last story and i don't see the big difference between the fast and normal setting, it is the same minus a frame here and there.
