The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - GLZP01

MD5 Checksum - 9841cc876fb7be6c61ead51deeabf280 verified with redump having the same checksum.

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

After the credits roll and you watch the final cutscene of Link and Tetra sailing off, the game hangs after the fade to black.

What did you expect to happen instead?

Like the NTSC and NTSC-J versions, I expected to go back to the menu and play

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]

  1. Beat the game.
    Using this save (http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/save/zelda_the_wind_waker_eu_a.gci) here are the steps to beat the game.
  2. Walk forward. Go through the doors, blah blah. Once you're in the reflection pool, go into the purple pot and it'll spit you up top. Use the hookshot to grapple to pull you up to the door out.
  3. During the Ganondorf fight, it's really easy. Whenever he does his three hit combo, just back away and then do the reaction attack with A (will not work if you're shield is up) and hit him a few times. After that, he knocks out Zelda and you do the same thing. During phase 3, you attempt to do that and he'll block it. After a while, Zelda will say, let's try something else, I'll shoot at you. Hold out your shield, you'll reflect the next golden arrow at Ganondorf. As he's coming out of the stun, teh reaction "A" will show up. Hit A, and the fight is over. Then just wait through the credits.

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?

This issue has been reported on the forums for years. I confirmed it on 4.0-2109

4.0 didn't work either. Not going to attempt older builds, 3.5 hanged twice on me while just trying to get to the boss. Hurray.

I tried some things to make this easier to figure out. I tried Interpreter, JIT, and JITIL on master, I tried memory card timings PR (because, hey, it fixes something in the J version,) and software FP (with the interpreter fixes applied to the JIT) and none of them worked. The logs indicate nothing after the video file ends... I'm really at a loss.

I'm MasterKillua (Dolphin Forum. Bad english), and I found the REAL solution!
It's a ".thp" problem (the credits is a .thp file. A video file).
The file is called "end_st_epilogue.thp". The size is like 500 Mb.
I was bored of watch the ending like 10000 times at every Dolphin rev.
So, I extracted a ".thp" file from SSBB (05-01Z.thp), the size is 10 MB.
I replaced the credits (end_st_epilogue.thp) with the SSBB video (05-01Z.thp). The SSBB takes 20 seconds.

Then, the "New Quest" appears! So, it's a .thp problem.
Ps: Sorry for my bad english. I'm recording a video explaining this.

Thank you for the information. The goal now becomes figuring out why Dolphin fails on this particular THP file. Could you try changing it with the NTSC Wind Waker THP file and seeing if it still freezes?

I tried with the NTSC Wind Waker THP and black screen appear again.
I think it could be because of the "dialogue box" that appears in PAL only, when Tetra is talking (it changes due the language you're using in the game)
In NTSC, the dialogue box is in the THP file (just english).
I noticed it because 2 dialogue box appeared in the game when I was playing.
One in english, and another in spanish (that's my Zelda WW Language).

well i realize im very late on this issue(i actually dont even know why im here) but have you tried taking the pal thp and putting it in the ntsc game to see if that works? (that is what it sounds like you guys did)

We tried putting the NTSC THP into PAL and it didn't work.

I know this is a little old, but I tried RichieRoxas1's approach of replacing the credits file and wanted to add a couple of things:

  1. Do a copy of the ISO before proceeding, because after replacing the file with a smaller one you won't be able to restore it.
  2. I tried using a thp file from Twilight Princess and it didn't work. It turns out that in the same folder in which the credits file is (in Wind Waker), there's another thp file you can use (named title_loop.thp); you don't have look in another game's ROM.
