Game Name?

It's not just one. The ones I've found the issue in are Rhythm Heaven Fever (only the Rap level) and ExerBeat (at least in the Boxercising levels).

Game ID?
SOME01 and SRYPAF

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

When specific voice samples play (at least that's the only sounds that have produced the issue for me), they are a little glitchy. The sound itself seems fine, but there's some droning noise over some parts of it. Maybe only the highest pitches or the loudest parts, I don't know. It's a little hard to describe but you'll know what I mean when you check those games.

What did you expect to happen instead?

Clean sound samples playing.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]

  1. Just check out those levels I mentioned above and you'll quickly hear what I mean.
    2.
    3.

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4.0-2824

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
Yes, it's fine in 3.5-1124, so obviously the culprit is 3.5-1154, "Merge branch 'new-ax-hle'". No wonder, since it was the great audio overhaul.

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
Intel Core2Quad Q6600, Geforce GTX 460, 2 GB RAM, Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
[Upload big files to a hosting service and post links here!]
Happens with all audio backends.

I found another title with the issue: Mario Sports Mix. Several characters have it (in some samples). Just play for a minute and you'll hear it.

Is this issue still occurring in the latest development version?

Actions #3

Yep, still occurring in both audio backends. Thanks for the try, though! :)

mwernerxy, I have made another attempt to fix this issue. The fix is in PR #985. The fix affects DSP HLE only.

https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/985

Please test the fix by compiling the patch:
https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/985.diff

Or download (Windows)

Still happening.
It'd be good if anyone could confirm this issue with one of the three games I mentioned. I really don't think so, but who knows, it might just be some incompatibility with my Creative X-Fi...

Would you please provide instructions on how to get to the "Rap Level" in Rhythm Heaven Fever, and what I should be listening out for? DSP HLE or DSP LLE or both?

Actions #7

Alright, so it's only in DSP HLE. Here's my save file: http://www.file-upload.net/download-9491930/534f4d45.rar.html

You can then just choose the "Love Rap" level, actually you'll hear it quicker in "Love Rap 2". Especially look out for the "Fo' Sho'" and "All about you!" shouts. Oh, and you'll actually have to play because the issue is only with the voice of the person you are playing ;) So you gotta press A in the right moments ^^

I can hear the issue, tenatively accepting. Remember to keep testing dev versions and keep us updated on the issue.

Can you provide an audio dump of this issue? I'm hearing similar choppy distortions in streaming audio (Super Mario Galaxy music particularly) since the removal of asynchronous audio. Running 4.0-r3593.

What you're saying has nothing to do with this issue. Super Mario Galaxy does not have streaming audio and does not exhibit this problem.

You're probably experiencing slowdown which causes choppy audio. It is expected.

Attached. You can mainly hear it during the flute notes including the title screen. I also hear this phenomenon in the audio dump so it appears to be a simple defect and not related to performance/synchronous audio. I'm stoked to try out the huge improvements in performance over the last 2 months and this game runs at full speed for me now, but the music issue kind of ruins it.

Can you try it in LLE audio?

Actions #13

Updated by jayork42 over 9 years ago

Doesn't want to start the game using LLE, just a black screen. May need to check my DSP dumps.

Enter your commentsYeah, this has nothing to do with the issue report here.
Sounds like you simply don't run at fullspeed. If it shows fullspeed, maybe you have some strange settings like VBeam enabled. Or your frame limit is not at auto. Just delete your Dolphin.ini and try again.

Yeah, that fixes it in all three games, nice! :D

By all three do you mean Galaxy as well?

Actions #18

No, like we said: Your issue has nothing to do with the issue here.

Who made that fix? Skidau?
Is this going to be merged into master soon?

Him or I will make a Pull Request and have it reviewed soon. I keep getting side-tracked.
