Game Name?

Game ID?

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
No matter what game, Dolphin WILL crash when you exit out of emulation. It will ask if you want to stop the emulation, and right after, it freezes. The biggest annoyance is that Dolphin.exe will remain in task manager INDEFINITELY until I restart my computer.

What did you expect to happen instead?
Obviously .. no crash.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]

  1. Start a game
  2. Exit from it
  3. Click OK to confirm exit

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?

4.0-3771 and some similar ones.

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?

Yes but I can't remember which. I had one Dolphin on my PC, and it was wayyy outdated. So I updated it by pasting files over the old ones and I have no idea which Dolphin I used to have .. but it was 1-2 years old.

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)

Win7 64-bit Ultimate, i52500K, GTX580, 16GB ram etc ..

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)

Are you on Windows 7 or Windows 7.1? That can make a difference.

I think you need to re-read that JMC4789.

Sorry, Windows 7 with or without Service Pack 1. :P

I mean, I have seen this happen before, but I have no idea how to trigger it in a modern build.

With SP1 of course.

After turning off the confirmation message if I want to close emulation or not, it crashes about 50% of the time. Still, the Dolphin.exe will remain in task manager and can't be closed. I can start a new instance of Dolphin of course, but it's annoying regardless especially when troubleshooting and trying to move files and whatnot.

Get a core dump from the taskmanager from a crashed dolphin and one of the "phantom" dolphins where they are closed with no actual UI or anything alive.

It should be said that I'm unable to reproduce this, so, I'm kind of at a loss to what causes it, or else I would have done the work myself to get a core dump :)

Stacktrace or Coredump please.

Can you rename the dolphin folder in "My Documents" and download a new version.
Try that, I think the issue happened when you were replacing files of the old version with the recent 4.0-xxxx updates.

I'm exhibiting a similar issues with recent builds. (Windows 8.1, Nvidia 750m, Intel i7-4700MQ). I can, however, stop dolphin with the Task Manager, unlike OP.

I tried renaming the dolphin folder in My Documents but to no avail. The behavior is the same (asks if I want to stop emulation, then freezes if I say yes).

Turning on or off the confirmation message doesn't seem to change the frequency of the crashing.

And for some reason I can't reproduce it anymore. I don't think I changed anything, so I'm not sure why it isn't crashing now...

I got it to do it again by playing GC Twilight Princess for a while. This is definitely an intermittent issue, but an annoying one.
