Description

I have a Plantronics Gamecon 780 Headphones, which have Dolby 7.1 Surround sound, which can be toggled on and off by the software provided by Plantronics and by a physical button in the left side of the headphones.

The problem is, whenever I try to use any sort of Real Wiimote (Connect it to the computer and then pair it up), hitting the "Refresh" button makes exactly the same effect as the toggle button in the headphones.

This issue was tested in stable branches of Dolphin 4.0, 4.0.2 and latest unstable release 4.0-4191. Issue didn't happen in 3.0-235, 3.0-362, 3.0-765 nor latest stable 3.5 release, so I'm assuming issue popped up since 4.0 and above.

It will be kind of hard to reproduce steps without the named hardware, but these are:

  1. Having the headphones connected in any USB port and the Gamecon 780 software installed.
  2. Open the Wiimote configuration Menu, and put at least 1 Real Wiimote (doesn't matter if 1,2,3 or 4). You don't need to really connect any Wiimote, you only have to tell Dolphin that you are going to use one
  3. Hit the "Refresh" button.

This happens always, doesn't matters if I don't have any Bluetooth dongle connected or even a paired Wiimote.

Used Operating Systems:
-Windows 8.1 update 1 x64
-Windows 7 SP1 x64

If you need any other information, feel free to ask for it.

Last time we had this issue come up, it turned out to be shoddy bluetooth headset drivers; it's not Dolphin's fault, I don't think. Someone else could disagree with me, and this could be a different issue altogether... but I don't know.

My headset isn't bluetooth, not even wireless. It's USB, that's why I find this issue quite weird.

Is this one: http://www.pcgameware.co.uk/images/Plantronics-Gamecom-780-1.jpg

It could be shoddy headset drivers. But yeah, I really don't know how to help you beyond saying that maybe it's responding to whatever Dolphin does to ping/communicate with Wiimotes.

Well, I'll have to deal with it I guess. Not so serious business anyway, but just a little uncomfortable. I just can guarantee this issue exists since first Dolphin 4 release.
I'll update this post if in a future update issue ceases to exist

I have a similar issue with my USB headset, as does a friend of mine. Mine and his are both different from each other and aren't the same as yours, but one thing a lot of USB audio devices have in common is C-Media Audio.

The result of hitting the refresh button is also a little different, but I'll bet you anything your headset uses C-Media Audio as well.

For me and my friend, upon clicking "refresh", 8 times out of 10 it will kill the left speaker of the headphones. The only way to recover is to re-plug the headphones into the USB port. Otherwise, trying to change volumes or disable devices will result in freezing the program that was trying to make that change.

Suffering the same issue, headset is a Roccat Kave XTD. Interestingly enough, it does indeed use a C-Media DAC like the case above me.

In addition, trying to manually restart the windows audio service also fails to resolve the issue, it'll make any application trying to do anything with sound do nothing or hang.

The only current solution for me is to replug the headset or reboot.

Also on Windows 8.1 x64.

I checked what you guys said, and yes: C-Media Audio.
Well your issues seem a lot more serious than mine, as I don't need to replug or restart to make it work again, I just have to toggle sound again.

Maybe they are using C-Media to be able to use the Wiimote Speaker. Not sure if they work now, as my bluetooth dongle broke before I could test anything.

I'm going to just blame the headphones. There's no way for us to reproduce without having the hardware, and, I've tried multiple headsets of my own over the years with no such issues across three different PCs.

Not saying this is invalid, just that there's no way to really fix it without more information.
