Description

Game Name?

Burnout 2 - Point of Impact

Game ID?

GB4E51

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

Whenever you try to race on Palm Bay Heights, Dolphin crashes and displays a window saying "Invalid Write to 0x6e017930, PC = 0x800faae4". If I hit OK, the window changes to "Invalid Read at 0x6e01794c, PC = 0x800faae4". The only way to get out of the loop is to manually kill the process dolphin-emu using system monitor.

I've tried setting "Enable MMU" and this keeps the game from showing the Invalid Write/Read errors, but it still freezes and the emulation window has to be closed and restarted, but I don't have to manually kill the process.

What did you expect to happen instead?

Should not crash, obviously.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Start game
2.Finish the Offensive Driving 101 tutorial to unlock Single Race
3.Select Single Race from the menu, choose any car, and choose Palm Bay Heights as the track
4.Dolphin crashes

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?

4.0-4418

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?

Not tested, but wiki ( https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Burnout_2:_Point_of_Impact ) has reports of the game working, someone got far enough to see rain effects which would be impossible if you cant pass the first Grand Prix.

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)

Linux Ubuntu 14.04, Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.3GHz, nVidia GeForce GTX 650

You have a bad dump of the game. What's the filesize on it?

Actions #2

Updated by guitaristocrat3 over 9 years ago

889.22MiB compressed as gcz, 1.36GiB uncompressed

I'm willing to accept that it's a bad dump but why would Enable MMU make the error message disappear?

  • Status changed from New to Invalid

The MMU tries to handle those error messages instead of showing it on the screen. The MMU isn't very successful though as it still crashes anyway.

Can you get your disc MD5, I want to be 100% sure on this one. Right click the game from the game list, go to game properties, go to the info tab and compute MD5.

Sure thing

MD5 computed as fbe9a652b9d68cb41ee3ef19d3d30966 for the decompressed game

It went through a gcz compression and decompression in dolphin but I don't know if that would change the MD5.

Yeah, it's a bad dump. You and I both managed to get the same bug on bad dumps. Redumping the disc will likely fix your issue.

Alright thanks for the help. I'll redump and see how it goes.

Thanks again you guys. Did a new dump and now it works perfectly. Sorry for clogging the tracker with a bad dump.
