Description

Game Name?

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom

Game ID?

GYFEA4

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.

After completing a battle every so often, I received the error message "DSI exception in stmw". Clicking OK or X results in "DSI exception in lmw". If continually clicked, the console will crash, but no matter what it is impossible to continue play.

What did you expect to happen instead?

The game to continue to the stats/level screen and display EXP gained and level up stats, as it usually does.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Note that this issue doesn't happen automatically. From the moment you turn on the game, there is a number of battles that the game will work normally for until the game finally does break. I have not counted the number required.
  2. If you only save via savestates, it should happen by Yugi's Mission 3 at the absolute latest, but it might happen earlier than that - today I did a single mission loaded from a normal save and it locked up after one of the later battles.
  3. The typical method for this lockup is to Enable MMU/MMU Speed Hack, but that hasn't changed it.
  4. Likely unrelated and/or pointless, but it seems to happen more often at the end of missions than at the beginning.

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?

4.0, however I know that 3.5 had the same issue and I think 3.0 did too.

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?

No.

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)

Windows 8.1 (problem also happens on Windows 8)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M
CPU @ 2.40 GHz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000
64 bit OS, x64 Processor

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)

No.

Try a newer version of Dolphin please. This is a pretty interesting way of saying that it's a ticking time bomb, though. I've ran into music errors, but no crash, during long periods of play. If you can confirm anything, let me know.

I don't think it's quite the same as Issue 7255, the way he put it the game still runs, but mine gives me unassailable error messages before a crash.

Anyway, I upgraded to the newest version (which fixed a minor, but very annoying bug involving slowdown around Silver Fang's attack, Wild Sonic Storm), and tried to force the issue by entering more battles then necessary. I eventually got the error messages, but now they look... different.

Each one looks slightly different, that's a sampling. All of them are "Invalid Write To To 0xstuff, PC = 0xstuff" or "Invalid Read From To 0xstuff, PC = 0xstuff". Interestingly, if you dispel some of these, the game advances a frame or two, but it doesn't matter because the error messages don't stop.

If you think this is different, I can reopen for now.

Sounds like some sort of memory corruption bug (i.e. the game is trying to read from an invalid address because of a bug in Dolphin). We don't really have any good way to track down an issue like that besides a lot of time in Dolphin's debugger. Unless you can narrow down the issue yourself, don't expect much.

(The Invalid Write... messages are basically the same thing as the DSI exception message; the implementation of lmw/stmw just changed a bit.)

Yeah, this is a different problem altogether.

Ok, after that incident, Dolphin crashed when I went to play Falsebound Kingdom. I tried to see if other games would work, and the game I tested did, but when I turned Dolphin off and back on it didn't work either. Same for the third game I tested. So this is a kind of serious problem.

I think these are the same issue; it just happened to be fatal on one, and not fatal on the other case.

Let me explain; at least two games have this problem, and both games can outright crash, just have minor music errors, or you may not see it have a problem at all.

With this game and Mega Man Network Transmission, after long periods of play I would encounter a music bug. That was basically the warning to "this game can crash soon," and I'd usually save/quit. If I kept playing, it was pretty inevitable that something would go worse and shit would hit the fan.

That's why I do think this is a duplicate.

Ok, but does that bug stop you from using Dolphin because the emulator won't load games?

There isn't any way that a game crashing in that manner could stop you from loading games in Dolphin.

Usually the forums are better for basic support questions like "Dolphin isn't working; what do I do?".

I think you're having some kind of other issue there, unrelated to this.

This issue is still going on. I too get this around yugi's 3rd mission, and I can't get past it. At first I was using cheats (I've ran through the game a few times, don't judge me), so I restarted without cheats.

This still happens. I'm not sure what's going on, but oh well.
