Description

Game Name?

Game ID?

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
After 4.0-5402 - PR 1949 https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/1949 Dolphin starts very slowly: every time I launch the emulator, it takes almost 10 seconds on my system to start the "scanning for ISOs" process and then show the game list, while with 4.0-5400 the scanning always starts instantly (0,1 sec.)

What did you expect to happen instead?
Dolphin to start instantly

What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]
1.launch Dolphin
2.wait for the scanning ISOs process

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4.0-5927

Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
4.0-5400

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
Intel e8400, Nvidia gtx650ti, Windows 8.1

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
Launching Dolphin as administrator (run as administrator) speeds up the process (instead of 10 seconds it takes 3 seconds to start the scan), but it is still much slower than before

I didn't notice a huge change, but, I'm guessing some controller scanning hang or time out could cause this.

Let me know if PR2251 helps with the startup scan:

https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/2251

A test build can be downloaded here:

Well, actually on my system pr2251 gains only 1 second (it takes 9 seconds against the 10 of latest master 4.0-5942) to start the scan for ISOs...still a very long time compared to 4.0-5400 that starts the scan immediately after the double click of Dolphin exe

And as I mentioned above, using the option to run Dolphin as administrator (although I already have administrator privileges) cuts loading times drastically (from 9 to 2 seconds)

It's likely hanging on something or another, but finding out what isn't exactly easy based on the information given.

Is this still a problem?

Tried 4.0-7157 and it's still slow to start the scanning of games compared to 4.0-5400 (4.0-5400 starts immediately the scan of games, while every revision after that one take up some amount of time)

  • Status changed from New to Won't fix

This doesn't look like it's going to get fixed. Now that WXWidgets has updated, the gamelist searching appears to have gotten much faster for me anyway.

Not sure if marking this as fixed or wontfix, but, either way I don't think there's any interest in this issue from any of the active developers. I believe JosJuice has some filesystem stuff that will speedit up in the future, but, that's not directly pertaining to this bug report afaik.

The filesystem PR doesn't make the ISO scanning start faster, it only makes it complete faster.
