Description

Any chance of getting WBFS file support? That way users can easily move
their games from the Wii to PC by simply plugging in a USB HDD. Just an
enhancement request, nothing that is high priority. Also the SMG hack
allows for some games to get as far as the start menu, such as Dead
Rising. Great progress guys, keep up the good work.

interesting...would this mean that an lg drive would not be needed ot dump games?

Not too much point... you can already copy them to your computer with ftpii.

agreed, there isn't really a point, especially since if you can run the app to dump a
disk to a wbfs formatted hdd, you can also run an app to dump via network - and do so
without needing to expend a hdd.

That said, I don't think it would be harmful to add support for reading a chosen
image from the filesystem. Anything beyond that is helping warez, in my opinion.

The main reason one would want to do this is that WBFS strips out the unneeded data
of the disk image, so you end up with (for instance) a Wii Play image of 100 MB
instead of 4.3 GB.

I did some research and found something. A Wbfs file is nothing more than an iso file
trimed with a header length of 0x200000. The iso game begins to address 0x200000 and
is identical to a normal iso.

It would be easy to test the file .wbfs because at the start of the file it was
"WBFS" in hex so if the file is a wbfs just add 0x200000 to all the offset in the
emulator.

I'm afraid it is not that simple like you said, at least not only the header trimmed.
but also the body shrunk.

I agree with you but the fact that the rest of the score change is not change the
operation of Dolphin.

I did the test to remove the header and its functions properly.

Also all my iso Wii are trimed via Wiiscrubber 1.40 and its working properly.

ex: New Super Mario Bros. Wii is not more than 360 MB on my HDD.

would also love wbfs file support. i just finished ripping all 70+ of my wii games
(yes, i OWN 70+ games) with my WODE using the wbfs file system.

the next update to the WODE will allow the hard drive to be on your network. i'd love
to be able to have that drive on my network so that both the WODE and dolphin could
access the drive and file type

hi!
there is a tool (opensource) called wbfsfile that can transform to and back wbfs file
http://www.wii-info.fr/download-495-wbfs-file-2-9.htm
source code available in the "binary" archive
it works also on linux env and I'm able to play the wbfs games directly from ntfs drive (ie without adding it to a wbfs partition)
hope it helps
would be greatly appreciated!

Another vote for integrated WBFS support. On Linux there is a way to mount the partition with a FUSE driver. Would live native support in Dolphin plugin...

if you can mount the partition, can't you just open it as a 'disc drive' from dolphin?

Actions #17

sure, it works on Linux - but I'm limited to laptop hardware and DirectX 11 in Dolphin is delivering better performance ;)

This gets a vote from me too ^_^ I only own like 15 games but this would make my life much much easier.

Like right now you can transfer files to and from wbfs with a number of programs, but it would make my life so much better if I never HAD to transfer them back and fourth. Regardless at the moment it's just relatively easier to play my games on my wii. (I mainly use Dolphin for GC support, but it'd be nice to automatically have wbfs built in so I could use my PC was a wii as well ^_^)

Would love to see this added as well. Can save a ton of space by using wbfs over iso.

Nowadays even Wii users (homebrew-enabled lol) use NTFS ...

We really neet wbfs support in dolphin

Actions #23

Updated by shinhalsafar almost 13 years ago

This is a niche feature obviously but should be really easy to hook into the already existing iso loading functionality. Probably just add libwbfs.

I'm looking into it right now to see how difficult it will be.

I don't think anybody wants a way to mount and read wbfs partitions. I do however have a bunch of legit wbfs files sitting on an NTFS partition which I'd like to load up via Dolphin (just like USB GX can do).

I'd really like to have wbfs support in Dolphin. Dolphin is my backup Wii for the real Wii, and it is quite a hassle to keep the games in both formats.

Actions #25

Updated by briveira almost 13 years ago

mounting wbfs partitions should be the way, as people have a hard disk they would like to simply plug and use both with the wii or with dolphin

Actions #26

Updated by meyerpr almost 13 years ago

I disagree, wbfs partitions are outdated and should not be used anymore. The are more and more replaced by fat32 or ntfs partitions with *.wbfs files on them.

mmmh, ok, maybe you're right
It's me who is outdated O:)

I agree it would be great if it had wbfs file support as that is what many people use to store their games. There is a patch available that someone created for the source code. However, I am no good at compiling.
