Description

For those who don't know: The Android version of Dolphin has got a new UI that is designed for Android TV devices like the NVIDIA SHIELD. See this: https://youtu.be/9MVjJkKUda8

I would like to have access to a similar GUI when I am playing Games using Dolphin on my Windows computer - so why not add this GUI to the other versions? Of course it should be something optional, not the default GUI you see when you start Dolphin. Maybe one could add a button that leads to this interface - something like Steam's Big Picture Mode.

I like to play games using Dolphin on my TV or my tablet using Steam In-home-streaming and NVIDIA GameStream. When I launch Dolphin, I am welcomed by a not very intuitive or stylish interface - it is hard to use it on the small screen of a tablet or on a 46" TV that's 2.5 metres away. I think this would be a good addition to the application - and it shouldn't be that hard to port something that's already in one version to the others (although it looks like it is using some of Android's UI APIs).

This would be a great feature for all the users that have their gaming rig attached to their TV or that use Game Streaming services like Steam In-Home-Streaming, GameStream or Moonlight (formerly Limelight). :)

This isn't possible due to the TV UI being written in Android's API, which isn't portable to other OSes.

The exact UI that was added for Android TV is dependent on the Android framework, and in fact cannot be enabled even on Android devices that are not running the TV fork of the OS.

I agree that having a UI that doesn't depend on a keyboard and mouse would be a boon for HTPC users, but as a practical matter, the Android TV UI only exists as it is because Google did like 95% of the work. Doing something like that on desktop (and having it run across all three major operating systems) would be a major, major undertaking, and I think many people would prefer that effort be spent on making their favorite games work / work better.

In other words, it's a good idea and I doubt anyone's going to say "no" to it, but I wouldn't expect it to be done in the near future.

Would be nice, but it's not exactly possible.

Not saying desktop dolphin won't gain a "Big Picture UI" in the future, it just won't be based on the android code.
