Emulator Issues #8840
closedDolphin often crashes when loading/saving a savestate while TAS Input is open
0%
Description
What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
When loading save-states, Dolphin is far more likely to crash when doing so while TAS Input is open. GameCube and Wii TASing is pretty unfeasible right now because of this.
What did you expect to happen instead?
Crashes to be rare or non-existent.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
[Don't assume we have ever played the game and know any level names. Be as
specific as possible.]
- Open a game
- Make sure all save-state slots are filled
- Open TAS Input
- Start loading various save-states, one after the other. After a short while, Dolphin will crash, regardless of how long you wait until loading/saving another state.
Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4.0-7147
4.0-7133
4.0-7015
4.0-5400
4.0-1624
Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which
versions of Dolphin used to work?
Nope
What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)
AMD Athlon X4 750K 4.1GHz
AMD Radeon HD 7770
4GB RAM
Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
[Upload big files to a hosting service and post links here!]
Total system RAM usage stays under 70%, so I'm not sure my 4GB of RAM is the problem here.

I'm pretty sure this would be a huge problem if it happened to everyone. Considering tons of a large scale TASes have been made, it's likely an issue only affecting select computer. Please retrieve a core dump of the crash from latest master and post it here if possible.

The core dump ended up being about 1.1GB in size, which I don't think I'll be able to post. I forgot to mention that I'm on Windows 8.1 x64.

It seems to only happen when:
- an xbox controller is plugged in
- TAS Input is open
- A keyboard key F1, F2, etc is pressed to load state

@adiffin502 you can simply zip the file and it will be a LOT smaller. I had this issue as well, but it was fixed in a recent PR for me at least.

Does this issue still happen in the newest development version?

- Status changed from New to Fixed
No response, so I'm going to assume that this is fixed.

I guess it is fixed. The most I've gotten since is a temporary freeze.
