Description

Game Name?

Endless Ocean Blue World

Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)

R4EE01

MD5 Hash?

a637e5d79eecf18d7e3333a3264b62b7

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

The US version of Endless Ocean 2, "Endless Ocean Blue World", still stops on a black screen despite the fixes for issue https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/8954

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Attempt to run Endless Ocean Blue World US version in Dolphin since 4.0-7517

Which versions of Dolphin did you test on? Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which versions of Dolphin used to work?

4.0-7512 and previous work.

4.0-7517 and later do not work, up to and including 4.0-7866.

5.0 release candidate 33 works.

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

Intel i5-4670K, Radeon R9 280X, Windows 7 x64

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots, configuration files)

For some reason, the first Endless Ocean gets stuck on a black screen again when Progressive Mode is enabled in the Advanced tab of Graphics settings. This is true for both the US region version, RFBE01, and the EU region version, RFBP01.
The European version of Endless Ocean 2, R4EP01, has no regressions and works fine with and without Progressive Mode enabled.

I just tested this on my computer with progressive scan on, Endless Ocean: Blue World on the gamelist. No freeze on startup.

Oh, you were reporting two different things...

Okay, so, Endless Ocean: Blue World works for me. I don't have the first one to test unfortunately.

I downloaded the latest development version, 4.0-8074, to see if there was any change. Endless Ocean: Blue World (US version) still stalls on a black screen for me in this version.
I've tried with several different configurations of the emulator and with a completely new configuration file with no improvement. Enabling and disabling Progressive Scan doesn't change anything; it stays stuck on a black screen in either case, without even showing the Wiimote warning.

I don't know any programming myself so I can't really guess as to what's going on, all I can say for sure is that it doesn't work for me since the changes in 7517. I don't think something went wrong with my disc image, as it starts up just fine in previous versions of the emulator.
I included the note about progressive scan in the first Endless Ocean game since it might've been related, though I really don't know if it is, and it might just be a red herring.

Should I try with a fresh image without truncated zeroes? Would that even make a difference?

I just tried the game with LLE audio, and it worked there. Can you try that?

This seems identical to Ed, Edd, Eddy.

I tried it with LLE, and it, strangely, works. On HLE is still black screen.

I tested it again on my own, and a friend's computer. Endless Ocean Blue World starts and runs well without any obvious sound bugs when Dolphin is set to LLE recompiler, just like JMC4789 said.

I also gave it a spin in Endless Ocean 1, US region. That game also refuses to start if the Enable Progressive Scan option is checked in the graphics settings, and Dolphin set to HLE sound. It works just fine with LLE recompiler mode enabled, just like Endless Ocean Blue World. If you don't check Enable Progressive Scan it starts just fine in LLE recompiler mode and HLE mode.

Emulator version was 4.0-8074.
