closedodd frameskip breaks games
0%
Description
Game Name?
any game that runs less than 60 fps (30 fps games) or full speed( if brawl runs less than 60 fps)
tested on super mario sunshine
pokemon colloseum & xd
melee
brawl
galaxy 1 & 2
various zelda games
etc.
Game ID? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab)
GMSE01
MD5 Hash? (right click the game in the game list, properties, info tab, MD5 Hash: Compute)
0c6d2edae9fdf40dfc410ff1623e4119
What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.
Even frameskip works fine on my computer, but when I use an odd number of frameskip like 1 or 3 the game only shows 1fps
steps:
just turn on an odd number for frame skipping for pretty much any game.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on? Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which versions of Dolphin used to work?
latest master version 9420
every version since 4.0.2 (last stable) doesn't work
What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)
intel i7 4020-HQ @ 2.6ghz
Nvidia 960m 4gb
windows 10 x64
Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files))
I have videos (sorry for the bad quality I tried dumping the frames but couldnt get that to work properly, just use a camera instead)
the first video is odd frameskip (1), the second video shows even frameskip (of 2).
ignore the graphics configuration files, I did not open the configuration during gameplay, so it was using dolphins default settings

I figured Id post this issue, although my computer can run these games at full speed without Frameskip. I figured if someone else was using a low end PC they would be affected by this issue.

This kind of falls under the category of "Don't do that"
Frameskip is not really useful for a emulator like dolphin, it only helps when you have a strong CPU but a weak GPU (so weak that dropping down to 1xIR doesn't help)

I thought it was kinda weird that it works in 4.0.2 stable but not in any other version though, so I figured Id post it

Frameskip in dolphin has just been generally broken for a ton of games because of how Dolphin works as well as not being particularly useful when it does "Work"
Honestly I should look into removing frameskip after 5.0 with how broken it is.

- Status changed from New to Questionable
- Priority changed from Normal to Low
Accepting this but I'm pretty sure the "fix" here is going to be saying bye bye to frameskip after 5.0

Please don't remove frameskip, in the rare times it works, it's a neck-saver.

Reminded me that we want to remove it. Thanks :)

Yeah, I'm sharpening my "Remove features users want" axe, sorry.

I would like to request that this issue be merged with issue # 8271 it was the same issue, its just that I had posted that one a couple years ago, and decided to get proof for it now. That way you don't have duplicate issues to deal with.

Frameskip is a dead feature that never worked consistently or as intended... I'll need to get more input from the other devs as to whether it'll be removed, or altered in some way.
